More of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug. Let’s roll.
How would you rate the return of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on a scale of 1-10?
The matches were solid and okay, but it was hard to get into the show. Too many commercial breaks and they weren’t short ones either. It constantly disrupted the flow of the show and made it harder to enjoy. I’ll give it a six, but that’s not on the talent. It’s all in the presentation and those damn commercial breaks.
Does Tessa Blanchard deserve a 2nd chance if she is genuinely remorseful of her actions?
Tessa is a very talented wrestler and truthfully, what she allegedly did, in comparison to what so many others in pro wrestling have done, was small potatoes. Scott Hall killed a dude. Edge fucked his best friend’s girlfriend. HBK and Marty Jannetty used to slip girls roofies. We all have a past and she deserves a chance to move beyond that past.
Should the WWE Royal Rumble be a two-night event?
I don’t think so. No. I can see how that could work with the two Rumble matches, one on each night, plus four or five other matches to fill out each night, but I prefer one night and one show.
If you were to start a talk show, what would you name it and what would you discuss?
This isn’t a wrestling question, but it got mixed in and I’ll answer it because my answer is wrestling-related. It would be called Tossing Salt and the discussions would be pro wrestling, entertainment, pop culture, and politics. It’d be more on the wrestling and pop culture than anything else, but no topic of discussion would be off-limits.
Thoughts on Chelsea Green’s title reign so far?
It’s been less than 24 hours as I write this and I can honestly say that Chelsea Green is the best WWE Women’s United States Champion ever. Congratulations to the real People’s Champion.
I miss having “heel” commentators in wrestling. Having Jesse the Body Ventura commentating the last match, rooting for KO, and making Cody Rhodes look like the “heel” in the match.. really brought back some fond memories of “colorful” and entertaining commentary. Do you miss biased heel commentators?
It was different than the usual commentary and you’re right. Having Jesse heeling Cody added to the match. It made the commentary better. I would love to see a true-heel commentator back at the WWE Announce tables. It would be a nice move and greatly add to the product.
What are 5 matches/programs you’d book that haven’t happened in AEW?
Given the way AEW likes to throw random matches out there for no reason, I’m not 100% sure if these matches ever happened or not. I don’t think they have. How about starting, Claudio Castagnoli versus Will Ospreay? With the right build, this match could be excellent. Current ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevera versus FTR. Toni Storm versus Mercedes Mone. Two more? Kenny Omega versus MJF. And finally, Lance Archer & Wardlow versus The Young Bucks.
Kevin Owens has such a good track record of doing the unthinkable in WWE, that my nerd brain is now like “He’s gonna face Hunter at WrestleMania’. Would you like to see Owens versus Hunter at Mania?
I would love to see Triple H get medically cleared and come back for one more match. And yes, Kevin Owens would be the perfect opponent. When I saw the video of Triple H and Owens getting physical, an eventual match between the two was my first thought too. Let’s hope that Triple H has gotten good news from the doctors that he hasn’t shared with us yet and a match can happen at Mania. That would be awesome.
Hogan not being in the intro package is ridiculous. SNME was pretty much his show. I wonder if that was an NBC call or if Jesse made it part of his negotiations. If it was NBC, they’re wack. If it was Jesse, I respect that level of pettiness & hate. Thoughts?
Hogan was at the UFC show in Tampa walking Colby Covington to the ring so he’s still on good terms with TKO and management. My guess is, knowing of the bad blood between Hogan and Ventura, TKO and WWE decided against bringing Hogan in and offered him that role at UFC instead. But he still should have been included in the intro package. That was, as you say, ridiculous.
Should WWE replace the current WWE Championship with the Winged Eagle belt permanently?
It certainly looked good on Cody last night. If they were to change it, I certainly wouldn’t object.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap things up. Take care and watch out for foreign objects. I’ll see you at the matches.
