Merry Christmas Eve. I’m Doug and this is the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Ho Ho Ho! And away we go.
What are your thoughts on John Morrison/Johnny TV?
I’ve always liked John Morrison/Hennigan/Nitro/TV or whatever name he’s using at any given moment. He’s got a good look and is well-skilled both in the ring and on the mic. I’m surprised he’s not getting a bigger push these days, but then again, outside of WWE when he was doing that slow-motion ring entrance, he’s never really been a huge star anywhere. He’s a decent actor and my guess is he’s focused more these days on the Hollywood thing than wrestling. He wrestles just enough to keep his name out there, but that’s about it. A talented dude though and always a joy to watch wrestle. But on a personal note, no more Hercules movies. They suck!
Name one thing you like about Triple H’s era of WWE.
The wrestlers actually talk like real people in the promos and are not nearly as scripted as they once were. Also, I like the long-term storytelling. Everything happens for a reason, but we may not know what that reason is for six months. It makes for compelling, can’t-miss television.
Peak for peak, prime for prime. Who was better for all time? Triple H or Shawn Michaels?
It’s a tough call because both of these men are excellent, and wrestling legends, but in different ways. HBK had more entertaining matches, but Triple H was the better all-around character. I’ll go with Shawn on this one, but just by a fraction of an inch.
Have you seen Ric Flair’s latest tweets? Thoughts?
I’ve seen them. Flair got on Twitter and was in his feelings about how “she” ripped him off and betrayed him. Then he backtracked and said the tweet was about a guy who ripped him off and cheated him on a multi-million dollar deal twenty years ago. Former ROH Owner Cary Silkin chimed in and said Flair should pay him back the $41,000 that Flair took for appearances in ROH that he then didn’t make. Flair came back with a statement that he was going to expose Cary Silken during an appearance on Busted Open Radio. Then on the show, Flair backtracked again and said that he had nothing bad to say about Cary Silkin. The bottom line is Flair gets drunk, tries to be relevant, stirs up shit, and then backtracks. Flair needs to put the bottle away and quit with the drama. He needs to pay Silkin back the money he stole as well.
Who would be the AEW World champ if you were in charge?
Looking at the current AEW roster right now, I’d probably put the belt on Christian Cage while AEW rebuilds and rebrands itself.
Jacob Fatu & Bron Breakker versus Haku & Scott Steiner. Who wins?
Fatu & Breakker are both monsters in the ring, but they had to learn it somewhere. And that somewhere would be their father and Uncle. While the old men taught the kids all the kids know, they didn’t teach them all the old guys know. Haku & Steiner would win.
Keith Lee versus Brock Lesnar. Who wins?
Physically, they match up well, but after ten minutes, Lee would be blown up and out of breath. Then Brock would take him on a trip to Suplex City. Brock wins.
December 27 will be the last airing of AEW Rampage. The show is being discontinued. Thoughts?
The ratings have continued to fall and no one was watching the show. AEW allegedly has new options in play with a streaming deal with Max so they didn’t need the burden of filming an additional show every week. It’s a logical move by AEW that makes sense.
Do you think a Shawn Michaels vs. AJ Styles match would have lived up to the hype?
If both men were in their prime, it would have been a fantastic match and one that would be smiled upon for years to come. Unfortunately, when this match was proposed, Shawn had already been away from the ring for several years and retired. It would have been an older HBK with ring rust and out of practice. He and AJ would still have an amazing match by most people’s standards, but I doubt it could have lived up to the standards that HBK has for himself. It wouldn’t have lived up to the hype.
Would you have ended “The Streak”?
Probably not. That was the Undertaker’s thing and Brock didn’t need the win. He was already over with the fans and a multiple-time WWE/World Champion at that point. I would have let Taker keep the streak alive and both men could continue with their respective careers. A loss to Undertaker wouldn’t have hurt Brock at all and he would have all of his heat back the next night on RAW by beating up anyone.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Have a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see you at the matches.
