Every day, my Twitter feed is filled with dozens of random questions. This is where I provide the answers. It’s Ultimate X Q&A. Let’s do this.
What’s one responsibility you wish you didn’t have?
Probably taking care of this house, Mom, the pets, etc. It sounds selfish, but it’s so damn hard just looking after myself. But Mom’s health is failing, and my sister’s health is failing and everything seems to fall on me. And my health is too with one leg, only a half-foot, diabetes, and other issues. And I’m alone. It’d be so easy to quit and give up, but I can’t and won’t. I wish I could just run away and leave, but I can’t. And I won’t.
Should there be a universal basic income, and if so, how should it be funded without creating economic disparity?
That is called welfare. All it does is create an entitlement society where no one takes responsibility, and people get lazy and dependent on others. It kills motivation and ambition. Why work to get better when the government gives you everything? It’s a great idea in theory, but in reality, socialism never works.
If you could choose one superpower, but it has to be something mundane, what would you pick?
The ability to read and understand any language. That’s pretty mundane, right? But imagine the knowledge I’d be able to access and learn. It would be incredible.
Pedophiles could be executed under new bills proposed by MAGA Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. “If you are raping or molesting someone, you are essentially murdering their soul. Those people never fully recover…” Do you agree with her?
Execution is fine so long as it’s slow and painful. Hanging or a firing squad made up of victims sounds good. Or here you go. Pedophiles are painted with a mark to identify them and then sent to prison and released into the general population with the guards taking frequent breaks. And whatever happens, happens. They deserve it.
What if you get married and your spouse doesn’t want kids?
At my age, I’ll be the spouse that doesn’t want kids. That ship has passed for me and I know it. However, my friends have kids so I can do the grandpa thing every so often. My spouse not wanting kids though. It’s cool.
What’s the best thing you got from your parents?
A sense of responsibility, honesty, and a good upbringing with the occasional whooping when I needed it.
What’s one idea you’ve sparked that turned into something incredible?
I’m a writer so many times, an idea or thought will creep into my mind and if I can stay focused, a great story will form. Also, I once had an idea for my own website, and well, DougMaynard.com was born.
What restores peace to a broken heart?
Alcohol, music, and a damn cat.
Do you hold the door open for the person behind you regardless of their sex, age, color, or religion?
Absolutely. My Mama taught me manners when I was growing up. I always hold the door for everyone behind me, regardless of who they are.
Can friendship turn into love?
The best romances always start as friends first. So that would be a yes. Romance might die, but real friendship is forever.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s close up shop for today. Take care and be well, my friends. I’ll see you at the Waffle House.
