And here we go, Day 9 of house arrest. I’m Doug, and this is a Day of Dougie. How the hell are you? As you might surmise from my intro, I’m not too good. Last Tuesday, after leaving my daily visit to the Michael Jackson sleep tank, aka HBO therapy at the Wound Center, I decided to take my truck to the shop for repairs. A leaky radiator. How long can it take, right? Well, it’s not a radiator. And how long? Today is Thursday, of the following week. And I’ve been here at the house for nine days. No company since I don’t have any friends left. No social interaction at all except with my cat and Mom. For nine freakin’ days! Am I going crazy? Damn straight, I am.

But today, I have a nurse coming in at noon to check my foot. And hopefully, I’ll hear something and get my truck back today as well. They had to order a part, plus they were closed on Saturday and Sunday, plus closed on Tuesday and Wednesday because of the extreme cold and weather. But they had the truck up on the rack Monday, so I’ll give them time for a test drive and call them this afternoon. Wish me luck! I need some damn people.

And if you’re wondering about my doctor appointments, I’ve missed every one since last Tuesday due to transportation issues. But I’ve spoken regularly to Mary at the Wound Center and as soon as I’m on the road again, appointments, regular care of the foot, and trips the HBO Chamber will resume as usual. It’s just doctor visits, but I’ll be so happy to get back on track. The people at the WC are really cool and I’ve been going there for so long, they’re more casual friends than just doctors and nurses. I’m tired of no human contact or people. And yes, this is really me saying this. I miss people. Can you believe it?

But enough of all that. Let’s do a Day of Dougie. By the way, if you like my Day of Dougie blogs, check out the Ultimate X Q&A. I’ve taken random questions from Twitter and I answer them. Just consider it a higher level of a MySpace survey. Remember them? The questions can get pretty random and out there at times, but the answers are always pure, unfiltered, Dougie Fresh. It’s the Day of Dougie, but not as much bitching.

Now, what was I saying? A Day of Dougie. I guess that means I need to get the Magic Bag out and find a few topics of discussion, don’t I? Let me find the bag then. It’s buried under about twenty rolled-up Ace bandages. If you ever need an Ace bandage to wrap up a body part, let me know. I’ll be your hook-up. I’ve got a ton of them. And now, the bag. The topics of discussion for today are Carman, Nuggets, Gone with the Wind, and Chasing Amy. Yes, four topics. This is my first Day of Dougie for 2025 and I want it to be special, so I drew out an extra topic. You’re welcome.

Nuggets

My favorite part of the chicken. No, not really. Chicken nuggets are processed pieces of chicken meat made into little balls, given a layer of breading, and mass-produced for everyone to enjoy. At least I hope that’s how they’re done. I’d hate to think that roosters are having their jigglers cut off and that’s what we’re eating. Just think. A ten-pack of nuggets from Burger King means five roosters crowing in agony, and screaming, “My nuts!” And the chickens are telling them to keep walking. I prefer the processed food argument instead.

But I like nuggets. I’ve often jokingly said that I eat like a 14-year-old where my main meals consist of chicken nuggets and tater tots. Not all the time, but probably far more often than the average 58-year-old man. But don’t judge. If I had a good man here to cook for, I’d be doing the real food every night to keep him happy. And the only nuggets I’d be wanting. Ummmm… never mind. But Nuggies are good food. I like them. ‘Nuff said!

Gone with the Wind

A legendary book and classic movie from 1939. We’ve all heard of it. And guess what? I’ve never actually seen it. I do have the book and read it a few years ago while having an extended stay at the hospital. I’ve seen clips from the movie, bits and pieces, but have never watched the entire movie from start to finish. And you know what? Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn! It’s been around for 86 years. It’s not going anywhere. I’ll watch it someday. I will. Really.

Chasing Amy

A movie that I have watched though, several times, is Chasing Amy. It’s a Kevin Smith classic where a boy meets a girl, who just happens to like other girls. Add in the best friend, comic books, Jay & Silent Bob, and it’s an instant classic. The movie stars Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams. Say what you will about Affleck, but in this movie, he’s very good. Other stars are Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, and Dwight Ewell as Hooper. He’s a great character you have to see to believe. It’s just an awesome movie, Smith’s third after Clerks and Mallrats, and is arguably one of the best from his movie library. Check it out if you get the chance. I think it’s on Tubi.

Carman

I don’t often do real people, but Carman’s name came up and I can’t help but smile. A friend for over thirty years, Carman is an incredible guy from the old Stoney-Crew days. He was the pretty-boy rock star guy who wore spandex, and mascara and looked like he just stepped off the cover of a Cinderella album. And yes, he plays drums. What can I say about this man? We’ve been friends, off and on, forever, and even though our political views are slightly different, it doesn’t matter. If I called him today and just wanted to chat or needed a favor, he’d come through for me, and vice versa. If he ever needs me, I’m here. And despite a little gray in the hair, he still looks like a rock star. And some of the conversations we’ve had. Oy vey! Carman is proof that there are awesome people who are like a fine wine, only getting better with age. I’m blessed to call him a friend.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe, plus be sure to check out the Ultimate X Q&A. I’ll be back later today with an edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A, and I may do the X thing too. We’ll have to wait and see. And I guess that’s all for now. I’m Dougie and this is my Day. I’ll see ya!
