On Facebook, in an ad by Local Gems Press, I saw mentioned something about a 7-Day Poetry Writing Challenge. It’s a contest they’re having where they send you a prompt for seven days, and each day, using the prompt, you write a poem. And it all leads to a chance to be published in a book, get critical acclaim, and all sorts of hoopla. It all sounds interesting but for someone else. Not for me.

Why do I need to be published when I have my very own website, which bears my name, where I can publish anything I want? And critical acclaim? I’m my own worst critic by far, plus my readers can comment on everything I write. So forget about the contest.

But I like the idea of a challenge. Writing a poem every day for a week? Poetry really isn’t my thing, but that’s a challenge I’m willing to take. So, I will. And for the next seven days, I’m doing the Seven-Day Poetry Writing Challenge.
