I’m Doug, and this is the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready to rock & rumble? Let’s roll.
Do you believe Joey Janela was held back in AEW, or did he make his own mistakes that led to his downfall? Should AEW have used him more prominently, or was his eventual exit inevitable?
Janela is a talented dude and an entertaining wrestler, but he’s also the picture of what Cornette means when he talks about “outlaw mud show” talent. He is not ready for prime time. Janella tends to rub people the wrong way, and his antics on social media make him doomed from the very start. He was lucky to be signed by AEW in the first place, but his eventual exit was inevitable.
Should Corey Graves be back on Raw or SmackDown, or is NXT the best fit for him right now?
Corey should be where WWE needs him. I’d prefer to see him on RAW or Smackdown, plus all of the PLEs and Saturday Night’s Main Event shows. When Joe Tessitore missed Smackdown last week, Corey should have been the man filling in for him and not Vic Joseph.
Logan Paul has been banned from visiting Egypt for life. Thoughts?
The funny thing about this is that Logan has never even been to Egypt, so why is he allegedly banned? I guess that if Logan forced the issue and actually tried to get a VISA to travel to Egypt, it’d be approved. Logan’s ban is based on what his pal, Mr. Beast, told him. If Logan, or better yet, WWE, really wanted to go to Egypt, he’d be allowed. Japan though? That’s another story.
Does Cody vs Cena feel like a big time to you?
Nope, it does not. So far, I’m not feeling this whole Cena retirement tour, and I don’t want to see him taking the spot of any full-time wrestlers who earned that spot at Mania versus Cody. Hopefully, we’ll get more clarification before we get to Mania, and someone else will get the match versus Cody instead.
Matt Riddle recently complained about people making a big stink because he missed some Indy dates. He feels that it isn’t a big deal. Do you agree with Riddle, or is it a big deal?
If Riddle agreed to be at an event and didn’t show up, blowing it off for whatever reason, it is a very big deal. Maybe Matt doesn’t care, but the promoter has most likely advertised and promoted Matt’s presence and has a lot of time and money invested. It makes the promotion look bad. And in the case of Memphis Wrestling, which Matt canceled at the last minute to go to Nick Hogan’s wedding, they had built their entire show and television around Riddle. And then he didn’t show so everything had to be redone and rewritten at the last minute. Not being reliable is a very huge deal and hurts quite a few people. If Matt continues to no-show or cancel, stop using him. Don’t book him and don’t pay him. There are plenty of reliable, honest wrestlers out there willing to step up and honor their commitments and responsibilities. If Riddle can’t do it, who needs him?
Not trying to be political but if all 45 presidents were in a Royal Rumble, who would win?
How would they enter? Randomly or by the order in which they were elected? It doesn’t matter. My final four would be Teddy Roosevelt, William Taft, Andrew Jackson, and Abraham Lincoln. Jackson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln would work together to eliminate the 400 lb Taft from the ring. Jackson would be next to go, and Teddy Roosevelt versus Honest Abe would be the last two presidents remaining. And Abe would dodge a clothesline, to send Teddy to the floor. Number 16, Abraham Lincoln wins.
Do you want to see Bryan Danielson in another AEW match?
If Danielson could wrestle safely and not risk further injuries, then sure. I’d love to see it happen. But, I’d rather see Danielson get healthy and be safe, so that probably means no more matches for the American Dragon.
How would you book a Jim Cornette return to the WWE?
The only returns I’d book Cornette for in WWE are either a Hall of Fame induction for him and the Midnight Express, or if WWE just happened to be within driving distance of Castle Cornette and Jim did a one-night-only appearance at a TV taping or PLE for something against Dominik or maybe Logan Paul. Hell, have Dom, with Judgment Day, fight CM Punk. Punk can bring out Cornette as an equalizer against Carlito, and while Corny creates chaos outside the ring, he can slip Punk the tennis racket to nail Dom with for a win. Simple, but fun and effective booking, plus Cornette likes Punk and Dom, so he’d probably do it for a lark.
Do you remember when Sammy Guevara was a big deal in AEW? I wonder what ever happened to that guy?
Sammy is currently one-half of the ROH Tag Team Champions, with Dustin Rhodes, so he at least still has a job and semi-prominent role in the company. But yeah, his star has fallen quite a ways since the early days of AEW. His occasional acts of immaturity backstage contributed to this, but I feel the biggest factor for his decline in status is simply that he’s been there too long and Tony Khan has found new, shiny toy wrestlers to play with. Sammy is old news and thus, doesn’t get used. He could use a major reboot for his character and gimmick. Sammy has gone major stale as a character.
Gangrel & Vampiro versus Road Dogg & Billy Gunn. Who wins?
Oh, you didn’t know? Your ass better call somebody. The gruesome twosome vampire twins are great talents and excellent wrestlers, but Road Dogg and Billy were six-time WWE Tag Team Champions of the World. The winners for this one? The New Age Outlaws.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. I’ll see you at the matches.
