Doug Maynard
I’m Doug. Welcome to an extra-large edition of Wrestling Fact or Fiction. In fact, it’s so big, that I’m breaking it up into two columns. Don’t say I don’t love you. The statements come from the mind of Mr. Jake Chambers, from 411Mania.com. The comments that follow? That’s all me, baby! Let’s do this. Let’s roll. This is Part II.
Statement #15: The main event of the Saturday show is not really the main event of Wrestlemania.
FICTION: It’s closing the show for the night and the final match of the evening is the Main Event. It’s pro wrestling 101. It doesn’t matter which night it happens. It’s the main event.
Statement #16: You don’t recognize Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Braun Strowman as real Royal Rumble winners.
FICTION: I do count Hacksaw Jim Duggan as a Royal Rumble winner. He won the first one, and if that doesn’t count, I don’t know what would. So far as Braun goes, he won a faux-Rumble in the Bizarro world of Saudi Arabia. I had forgotten about that match, but WWE hasn’t and they count him so we may as well count him too.
Statement #17: You wouldn’t have cheered so hard for Knockouts Mickie James and Jordynne Grace entering previous Rumbles if you knew that it would lead to TNA officially becoming a seeder system for the WWE.
FICTION: I cheer for the wrestlers I like and having Mickie James return as she did at the Rumble, as the TNA Knockouts Champion, was a big moment. I was happy to see her back. With Jordynne, it was just a cool moment. I wasn’t thinking about cross-promotional agreements at the time. I was there for the fun moments.
Statement #18: It’s never gonna happen for the Street Profits as it did for the Usos.
FACT: The Street Profits are a good team, but they’re not The Usos, and there is no reason for us to pretend otherwise. Montez Ford has a ton of potential as a singles star, but so far as being a top team in WWE goes, I think they’ve peaked.
Statement #19: Starting with 5~10 wrestlers in the ring would be a good innovation to liven up the Rumble.
FICTION: As I said earlier, if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it. Starting off with five wrestlers would just turn it into an AEW Casino Battle Royal. Do we really want that? Leave the Rumble as it is.
Statement #20: A random mid-carder or a “jobber” will never win a Rumble.
FICTION: Look who won this year. Jey Uso is a tag team guy and mid-carder. It can happen, and it will again at some point. Just when no one expects it, expect it. You’ll see.
Statement #21: Despite her size, Roxanne Perez will be a successful star on the WWE main roster.
FACT: Roxanne has skills. Look at Alexa Bliss or Zelina Vega. They’re not big women, but they are successful and have had good careers. Perez can talk on the mic, plus go in the ring. She has nothing to worry about.
Statement #22: Despite her size, Lash Legend will NOT be a successful star on the WWE main roster.
FICTION: Lash is still young and learning, but shows great potential. So long as she keeps working hard and getting better, I don’t think she has anything to worry about. She’ll do well in the WWE.
Statement #23: I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, the women’s Royal Rumble match only needs to have 20 entrants.
FICTION: If the women only had twenty spots, while the men had thirty, how is that fair? It’s not. Both Rumble matches should stick with the 30 stars each.
Statement #24: Logan Paul will win the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match.
FICTION: Logan Paul has proven himself and already earned a spot among the top stars of the WWE. He doesn’t need the Rumble to deserve a spot in a prime-positioned match.
Statement #25: Liv Morgan will win the 2026 women’s Royal Rumble match.
FICTION: Liv has evolved into a top star for WWE and I think she’ll have plenty of chances to chase titles and main-event PLEs. There are a lot of talented women coming up in WWE who would need the opportunity more. They’ll have the opportunity before Liv does.
Statement #26: You will watch both the new WWE Evolve show and the LFG reality competition show.
FICTION: I will try to watch Evolve for the first few episodes to see if I can get into it, but I doubt I’ll watch LFG. I’ll read the recaps and watch highlights on YouTube. There is way too much wrestling on TV right now to add more to the schedule. I do have a life outside of wrestling to consider too.
Statement #27: HHH’s booking is super boring.
FICTION: It’s a lot of good storytelling about interesting and unique characters, some twists and turns, and it all leads to matches in the ring and at PLE events. I can actually make it through an entire episode of RAW or Smackdown now. Boring? No, I don’t think so.
Statement #28: John Cena is a really nice guy who should have a really nice ending to a really nice career.
FACT: I’m sure that Alex Riley might disagree, but Cena is a good dude. And he should go out on a high note with a strong match, a successful retirement tour, and a big finish. Not as the 17-time Champion, but a strong match where he passes the torch and has that last moment in the spotlight.
Statement #29: CM Punk will face Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania one day.
FICTION: I’d love to see it happen, but time is not on our side with this one. Austin just had knee surgery and isn’t getting any younger, and neither is Punk. Time is running out and the odds of this one happening grow slimmer every day.
Statement #30: You kinda forgot about AEW.
FICTION: No, I’ve tried, but it doesn’t work. There is always something happening there, sometimes good and sometimes bad. I do have a few wrestlers in AEW that I enjoy watching. I keep up more on the internet rather than watching Dynamite or Collision, but I do pay attention and have AEW on my mind more often than not.
And there you go. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And again, my thanks to Jake Chambers of 411Mania.com for allowing me to play with his toys. Much appreciated. And I guess that’s all for now. Take care my friends, and stay well. I’ll see you at the matches.
