Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.

Today is one year since Mercedes Varnado made her AEW debut at AEW Big Business! How would you rate Mercedes Mone’s past year and career?

Mercedes has won more titles than ever over the past year. She’s making more money than ever. So, by those standards, she’s a hit. But, her matches have been awful and are but a shadow of what they once were. Her credibility has decreased significantly, and her image/character has become a joke. So, I’d rate it a 5. Good financially, but bad in every other way. The benefits of being All Elite.

Do you have any thoughts on Nick Wayne and Mother Wayne standing up to Christian Cage?

It’s time for the past year to pay off and Nick to do the turn to babyface. He’s improved quite a but under the watchful eyes of Christian, and now, it’s time to have it all pay off. I’m interested in seeing how things develop.

Do you agree with Will Ospreay that AEW is the best wrestling promotion in North America?

No, I don’t. On that opinion, Mr. Ospreay and I will respectively disagree.

Don’t know if it will ever happen, but if WWE created the DDP Award, who should be the first recipient?

If the award is about stepping out and doing for others, the best person to be the first recipient would be Titus O’Neill. His work, as a WWE Ambassador, has been excellent.

Remember the Cole Twins from WCW? Whatever happened to those two guys?

The Cole Twins, Keith & Kent, and no relation to Michael, are a pair of identical twin brothers who wrestled in WCW in the early ’90s. A popular tag team, they regularly feuded against the likes of Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce, aka The Godwins in WWE, and they even held a televised victory over the Harlem Heat. They left WCW in 1994 but made a return to wrestling for NWA in mid-2000 for a run of about a year. Both men retired not long afterward and haven’t been involved in the business since. A good team but never rose above mid-card status. Too pretty for their own good and always playing the babyface.

How do you best remember Lord Alfred Hayes? As a wrestler, manager, or commentator?

When I think of Lord Hayes, I think of him primarily as a manager and commentator during his run for Crockett in the early ’80s. He would co-host Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, alongside Bob Caudle or Rich Landrum, feud with Johnny Weaver, and manage The Russians, Nikolai Volkoff & Chris Markoff. This was shortly before he moved to WWE and joined Vince McMahon as the co-host of Tuesday Night Titans on the USA Network.

Dave Meltzer on WOR is saying the Lana/Rusev marriage break up was a work as part of a storyline. Thoughts?

Meltzer is an idiot. So, they pretended to break up, lived apart, and Miro went back to Bulgaria for a while, as part of a story? For who? For what company? What was the endgame? Couples break up and then get back together all the time. I blame the pressures and unhappiness of AEW for the majority of their issues. Whatever the reasons for their split, they’re back together now. And Meltzer is still a pompous idiot. ‘Nuff said!

Fightful is reporting that Jeff Cobb has signed with WWE and is already listed on their internal roster. Thoughts?

I remember seeing Cobb somewhere a few years ago, and I was impressed. Then, last year, he did some shots on AEW Dynamite and looked bad. He looked bloated, and the match was Botchamania central. And now, WWE? I guess it depends on which Jeff Cobb we get. He’s a big man with good skills and lots of power. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all goes.

There are rumors that WWE may be adding more to the already crowded WWE WrestleMania weekend schedule with a comedy show for Sunday night after Night 2 ends. Thoughts?

So, for WrestleMania weekend, we already have RAW, Smackdown, an NXT PLE, two nights of WrestleMania, and the Hall of Fame. So, why not add a comedy show, featuring comedian Adam Hinchcliffe? I get it that they’re in Vegas and late-night comedy events are business as usual in that town, but it just seems like too much. That being said, I’d love to see WWE do a special event on Netflix, maybe a Roast of some of their top stars. Just imagine about ten wrestlers and personalities roasting John Cena, Michael Cole, or The Undertaker. It would be comedy gold for Netflix. Something like that, I’d fully support. But a comedy show at WrestleMania as part of the weekend festivities? Why? Just why?

Allegedly, Hulk Hogan cut a live appearance and signing short and left early, leaving fans waiting and children crying. Thoughts?

It was an appearance for the Real American Beer and I guess that Hogan realized that those kids weren’t going to buy his beer, so he took a walk. It’s the return of Hollywood Hogan, brother! But in all seriousness, that was uncool of Hulk and a total dick move on his part. He should do better.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects, and I’ll see you at the matches.

Ubuntu!
