Every day, my Twitter feed is filled with dozens of random questions. This is where I provide a few of the answers. It’s the Ultimate X Q&A. Let’s do this.
Using only a quote from one of their songs, who is your favorite artist of all time?
Anyone who knows me even the slightest bit already knows who my favorite artist of all time is, but I’ll play along.
Paint on my cruel or happy face
I hide me behind it
It takes me inside another place
Where no one can find it
Does cheese belong on hotdogs?
Some people may like it, but that doesn’t sound too right to me. I’d say no to that.
Are you a scary person?
I don’t think so. I think I’m adorable. But I have been told that, especially when I’m pissed off, I can be slightly intimidating. And if the temper flares, maybe a bit crazy. I don’t see it, but I’ve been told that.
How would you best describe yourself?
I’m me. I’m Doug. What more needs to be said?
What is your favorite song by Rod Stewart?
Although I have many songs by Rod Stewart that I enjoy, my favorite would be this one. The First Cut is the Deepest.
Have you ever returned to your old street and the house you grew up in to remember how things were back then?
I’ve looked up the homes where I lived in Raleigh and Concord, NC online to sit and remember. And yes, I’ve driven by my former homes in Maxton and McColl, SC, to do the same thing. It was a different time and I have memories at each of these places that I’ll cherish forever.
Halloween or Christmas?
Christmas for the kids. And Halloween for me. That is my favorite holiday.
If you turned your phone off for a week and didn’t contact ANYONE, who would come looking for you?
I doubt anyone would. I don’t have any friends like that anymore. I have people I love and care for, that I know care for me, but I’ve distanced myself so badly over the past few months in my anxiety and moodiness, they have their own lives to lead, that if I were to totally vanish, no one would even notice or care. My doctors would notice because I wouldn’t make my appointments, but no one else would.
You’re stuck in an elevator with a rock star (not Alice). Who is it?
Not Alice? That almost makes it hard. I’d pick the only surviving member of the band Dr. Hook, aka Mr. Dennis Locorriere. The man still performs regularly and still sounds great, and it would be an honor and privilege to meet him and hear some of these classic Dr. Hook stories.
If you could only eat food from 3 countries for the rest of your life, which 3 would you choose?
American, Chinese, and Mexican. What more would a man need?
Is transgenderism a mental illness?
Dressing up and believing that you’re something that you’re not is delusional and would count, I believe, as a mental illness.
What is the one thing that you’re grateful for?
I’m grateful for many things, but if I only can pick just one, I’ll say the friends I’ve gathered over the years, many of who are more than friends, but are now family. I’m not the easiest person in the world to get to know or be around regularly. I put up walls, pushed people away, and let’s be honest. I’m a weird person. But those who have broken the walls, managed to get inside to get to know the real me, and are still here, those people I will forever love, be blessed, and be grateful for.
What would you name this current chapter of your life?
Lost in the Shadows and Seeking a Path.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, let’s close up the shop today. Take care and be well, my friends. I’ll see you at the post office.
