Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
I know you’re not the biggest fan of AEW, but are there ANY aspects of the programming that you legitimately enjoy or like? Any gimmicks or performers or matches or storylines that, at the very least, pique your interest?
I am a fan of Christian Cage, although his run as the resident Father Figure in AEW seems to be coming to an end. If I see Dustin Rhodes, Sammy Guevera, or Thunder Rosa wrestling, I’ll try to watch. The Hurt Syndicate and The Ass Boys, aka The Gunn Club, are entertaining as well.
Being that FTR has turned on Cope and they have teased distention in the Patriarchy, what are the chances we see FTR vs Cope and Christian Cage?
It’ll happen sooner rather than later. I’ll give it two months away, tops.
WWE is bringing back the Cody Rhodes podcast that he did on his bus last year. Thoughts?
This is part of a WWE Podcast Network, that will also include Stephanie McMahon. The interviews that Cody did last were pretty good and Cody knows how to hold an interesting conversation. I’m looking forward to this.
In your opinion, who are the top 5 active in-ring performers in the world of professional wrestling today?
Right off the top of my head, I’ll say, Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley, Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, and Jacob Fatu.
How do you feel about wrestlers going off-script in their promos?
It depends on the wrestler, the situation, and to what degree they go off-script. Promos are better when it’s just bullet points and the wrestlers are allowed to use their own style and personality to get the message across, but they need to stay focused on the selling points for the most part. I think leaving the park can be good, depending on the wrestlers and what they say.
Do you think John Cena will go back to being a babyface before he retires? Or should he stay heel until the very end?
Cena will be cheered when he is in his final moments as a WWE superstar. It doesn’t matter if he’s a face or a heel. It’s John Cena and he’ll be cheered regardless.
What do you think? Do Dave Meltzer’s star ratings hold any value?
Only to Dave Meltzer. All the so-called star ratings are one person’s biased opinion and nothing more. They’re as important as body hair or a fart.
What do you think? Should Seth Rollins align with The Rock and John Cena, or stay true to himself?
I can’t see Seth as a Rock/Cena associate. It just doesn’t look or feel right to me. Seth should just remain Seth, doing Seth things as only Seth can do. If anyone were to join The Rock and Cena in an unholy trinity, I think Drew McIntyre makes far more sense.
Do you think Mariah May should take the leap to WWE? Or does AEW still offer her the best place to shine?
If the opportunity comes up, Mariah should move to WWE. AEW has used her and now she’s cast out among the masses, lost in the shuffle. She’s not Tony’s favorite new shiny toy anymore. It’s time to move on.
Do you want to see Tay Melo back in AEW soon? Or should she keep building her legacy overseas?
I like Tay, but she’s not a great wrestler. She’s okay, but will never be, in my opinion, a major star. Tay should just take whatever bookings she can get, be it overseas or AEW if they offer her a story, and make the best of it. Both she and hubby Sammy Guevera are old news at AEW and would probably be best served to move on.
