Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
Should WWE take a month off after WrestleMania with reruns of Best-Of shows running in place of RAW and SmackDown?
That’s an interesting idea, but their contracts with Nexflix, the USA Network, Peacock, etc., all call for regular weekly shows, and while an occasional non-live show might be permitted under extreme circumstances, to take any signifigant time off would be a breach of contract and cost the company millions of dollars. Also, wrestling fans are loyal but fickle. Break the storytelling and the momentum of the weekly shows, and they’ll find something else to watch instead. The negative points outweigh the positives by way too much to ever seriously consider this idea.
Je’Von Evans To Ricochet: “You’re wrestling in front of 2,000 people, every week, for a crackhead”. Thoughts?
This tweet has been deleted by Evans, and now, allegedly as a result, the WWE NXT talents are being forced to take a class about social media and, more importantly, what to and what not to do on social media. Evans & Ricochet were going back and forth in a Twitter-war battle, and Evans dropped that gem of a line. While it’s probably true, and it scores as a major hit, it’s not the smartest thing to say in public. Evans is too new in this business to take shots like that and get away with it, plus he could open himself up for litigation from Tony Khan’s lawyers for defamation. Public insults are a tricky area to navigate. It will be interesting to see if this ends here or goes anywhere.
Allegedly, WWE and AAA are considering El Grande Americano for the AAA TripleMania event. Should Americano be on the show?
Just imagine the heat that Americano, who is not Chad Gable, will get if he shows up in Mexico at the TripleMania event. WWE would be stupid not to use him at this event, and doing so would make for a great business move.
Josh Alexander says that he left TNA and signed with AEW after his TNA contract expired because TNA never even made him an offer. Thoughts?
If this is true, TNA management dropped the ball in a major way. Alexander was their World Champion, and his contract expired. If it was a job-guy who wrestled once a year, a contract expiration could be missed, and it’s not a big deal, but the former World Champion? I don’t blame Alexander for being offended. He has every right to feel that way. This incident might explain why there was such a huge shake-up in TNA’s top management not long after Alexander left the company. It’s totally crazy and very bad business.
WWE has plans to bring in former star Doug Basham to the PC to work as a guest trainer. Thoughts?
Basham is an accomplished veteran, and I’ve heard Cornette many times on how underrated this guy is, and how talented he was backstage. I hope the kids at the PC pay close attention. They might learn something.
Rikishi recently said that he thinks WWE should do an all-female version of The Bloodline, with Naomi, Nia Jax, Ava, and Tamina. Is he right? Do you like that idea? Thoughts?
I like this idea. It would be a solid way to keep the Bloodline name in the spotlight while Roman, Solo, The Usos, etc., are doing other things, plus using that name and pushing the family legacy would give this faction instant credibility. With the removal of Damage CTRL as a top women’s faction, there is a void that this group could easily fill. Naomi, Nia, and Tamina fill the wrestling spots, while Ava plays the role of the wise man. It might work or it might bomb, but it would certainly draw some eyes to the show. And later down the line, we could see a unification between this group and the men’s version, leading to the family takeover of WWE, NXT, TNA, AAA, etc.
At AEW Dynamite Beach Break, it’s Ricochet versus Zach Gowen. What the hell? Thoughts?
Whoever thought that in 2025, we’d be seeing Zach Gowen wrestling on television in a feature match? That was not on my Bingo card. I like these surprises out of nowhere, and I’m glad to see Gowen back on TV and getting some work. I usually try to avoid most AEW TV, but this is one match that I want to see.
Do you think Joe Hendry is a good fit for WWE full-time?
I think Hendry will do fine in the WWE, but he’ll have to eventually rebrand and reboot his character. The gimmick is good, and it’s over like Rover, but after the first twenty times, the bloom comes off the rose. So long as Hendry knows when to tweak the character and make the subtle changes as necessary, he’ll do well.
Do you think WWE should reunite Penta and Rey Fenix as a tag team or keep them as singles stars?
How about using Penta and Fenix as two singles stars who occasionally team up when the situation calls for it? Why do they have to be either one or the other? It’s simple. They don’t.
Velveteen Dream versus Daniel Puder. Who wins?
Thanks for this match suggestion. These oddball matches come from my friend, LW, who likes to put together weird dream matches to see how I’ll react. He sends me at least a dozen potential dream matches a week. Puder versus The Dream? I hate to try and guess what he was smoking to come up with this one. The Velveteen Dream, aka Patrick Clark. A talented guy with a great character, but many, many personal issues. And Daniel Puder, the former winner of Tough Enough, who embarrassed Kurt Angle on live TV. This could be a good match. Both guys are talented, but never really got to reach their full potential for different reasons. Dream was a better character, while Puder would be a better grappler and fighter. Tough call, but I think Puder would lock in the Kimura on Dream and get a submission win after about fifteen minutes. Daniel Puder wins.
