Thoughts & Predictions

Coming up on Saturday night, live from St. Louis, on Peacock and Netflix, is WWE Backlash. And you know what that means. It’s prediction time. I’m Doug, and I’ve got my Magic 8-Ball ready. Let’s do this.
Undisputed WWE Championship
John Cena (c) versus Randy Orton.
Let’s get the most important part out of the way first. Orton is NOT winning the WWE Championship. Heel Cena is just getting started and has a long way to go before he drops the gold. It will be a good match and Randy will give Cena the beating of a lifetime, but Cena will find a way to keep the title. The biggest question here is who will show up and interfere? Will Dwayne finally make an appearance? Will Travis Scott take another casual stroll down the aisle? Will Cody make a return? And to those questions, I say no, yes, and yes. And then, a melee ensues. But when the smoke has settled, look for Super Cena to still be WWE Champion.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: John Cena.
WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship
Lyra Valkyria (c) versus Becky Lynch.
For some reason, I think the deciding factor in this match will be Bayley. I expect to see The Man dominate Valkyria, but just when she’s ready to win that title, a distraction from WWE’s favorite one-time hugger will break the momentum. Valkyria will take advantage and score an upset win.
Winner and STILL WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion: Lyra Valkyria.
Pat McAfee versus Gunther.
Pat is fighting for all things good, and I expect to see the former NFL star put up a good fight, but does anyone truly expect to see McAfee win? Me neither. Look for a decisive victory by the Ring General, Gunther. The fun here will be after the match when Gunther refuses to release his hold on McAfee, and someone needs to make a save. And my prediction? Gunther? He’s next!
Winner: Gunther.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Dominic Mysterio (c) versus Penta.
Dominik isn’t losing the belt this quickly. I expect that he’ll get some help from JD, Carlito, and a reluctant Finn Balor to get the job done, but get the job done, they will. Penta will come just so close, but that numbers game wins in the end.
Winner and STILL Intercontinental Champion: Dominik Mysterio.
Fatal 4-Way Match – WWE United States Championship
Jacob Fatu (c) versus Drew McIntyre versus Damian Priest versus LA Knight.
Here is the true wild card match of the night, as anyone can truly win, and it wouldn’t be an upset or surprise. Change that. LA Knight isn’t going to win, nor is Damian Priest. Knight has had his runs with the belt, and I just don’t see Priest with the belt yet. But that leaves Drew and Fatu, and it’s a toss-up. And the deciding factor? Solo Sikoa. His efforts to help his former enforcer have all backfired as of late, and the man who once loudly proclaimed his love for Solo now needs eyes in the back of his head where his former Tribal Chief is concerned. And Drew? He’s just a bad-ass snake in the grass who can strike at any moment. It’s a tough call, but I think we’re seeing a new United States Champion.
Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: Drew McIntyre.
