Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
The City of Wiggan, England, has turned down the request by Davey Boy Smith’s daughter to have her father as part of their “Walk of Fame”, which honors past and present residents who are big stars, saying that the British Bulldog doesn’t meet the criteria to be considered for a star. Thoughts?
Davey Boy doesn’t meet the criteria to be considered for a star. Really? Really? I did go look at the Wiggan, UK website about their Walk of Fame, and I recognized one name. Ian McKellen. The rest had me scratching my head. While Davey Boy might not be as well-known as Hulk Hogan, Roman Reigns, or John Cena, he’s still a far more recognizable name than most of the clowns they’ve already inducted. And Wiggan was in his hometown. I guess that the prejudice against pro wrestling is still alive and well. Or, it may be the scandalous way he died. But regardless, Davey Boy was a wrestling icon and deserves the honor. Hopefully, Smith’s family and the town of Wiggan will work something out. This is something to keep an eye on.
WWE is seeking new writers and producers. Will you be applying?
If this were twenty years ago, I probably would have applied. I couldn’t be any worse than some of the people they’ve had working those jobs over the past few decades. Hell, I know I could do better than the current Booker in AEW. But now? I’m too old, my health is too bad, I don’t like to travel or leave my house if I can avoid it, and my cat needs me here. So, no WWE job for me, damn it!
How should WWE book Alexa Bliss’s return?
They booked her to return in a tag-team match with Zelina Vega against Chelsea and Piper. It was good to see Alexa back in action, but that was very underwhelming. Unless she’s just there to plant the seeds for a return of the Wyatt Sicks, maybe in a feud with Zelina and the LWO, I don’t get it. But I’m sure that WWE has a reason and a plan. At least I hope that they do.
Do you think WWE made the right call moving Crown Jewel to Australia, or should the tradition have stayed in Saudi Arabia?
Australia is the next big market and conquest for WWE, and they felt that they needed a big event to showcase just how important Perth is in their eyes. So, they moved Crown Jewel to Australia, while the Saudis get Night of Champions and a live edition of SmackDown instead. That sounds good to me.
Do you want to see Willow Nightingale re-sign with AEW, or should she explore other options when her contract expires?
If Willow is content to only wrestle 10-12 times a year and be wasted, she should stay in AEW and continue as she has for the past few years. If she believes in herself as a wrestler, she should at least have a discussion with WWE, with TNA, with MLW, etc., and see what comes of it. Honestly, I don’t think she’s good enough to hang in WWE or NXT, and her time would be very short with the company if they even bothered to sign her. But Willow should do what she feels is best for Willow.
Rhino’s recent appearance in AEW was just for one appearance. Would you like to see the Man Beast sign a long-term contract and become a member of the AEW roster?
Rhino is also scheduled to wrestle for the NWA Championship at the Crockett Cup event coming up in June, so I don’t think joining AEW full-time is even an option at this point. If he signs for a big check and makes a ton of money, I can see Rhino becoming part of the AEW roster, but if he wants to stay relevant as a wrestler, keeping the appearances as one-shots would probably work for the best.
Jim Cornette, Sir Oliver Humperdink, Gary Hart, and Paul Jones w/ Woman versus Paul Heyman, Lou Albano, Freddie Blassie, and Teddy Long w/ Miss Elizabeth. Who wins?
I assume we’re having everyone while they were in their managerial primes, right? This would be very entertaining, but the actual wrestling would suck. Luckily, all of these men and women are great at being characters, so the actual wrestling wouldn’t matter. It’s a tough call because we’d have weapons, gimmicks, powder, and interference all over the place. The finish? Cornette nails Captain Lou with the tennis racket and gets the pin.
What do you think WWE should do with the Wyatt Sicks? Are they still a compelling faction, or has the delay cooled their momentum?
The momentum is gone at this point, and to the majority of the fans, they’re little more than a bad memory and an afterthought. But, one good major return and a night of chaos against the right person or people could fix that issue. I honestly don’t know what or how WWE is going to use this team and make them matter again. I wish I did, but the longer they’re away and off television, the less they seem to matter. Hopefully, there is a plan in play, hopefully with the return of Alexa Bliss to plant the seeds and kick things off. We’ll just have to watch and see.
Do you think Seth Rollins would have had the same success if he kept the Tyler Black name?
If all things stayed the same in his career except for the name, Seth would still have been very successful and near the top. It’s hard to keep a great talent down.
Which catchphrase is more over? Jey Uso’s “Yeet!” or Ron Simmon’s “DAMN!”?
Yeet is more over with the crowds and audience. Damn is more over with the dramatic effect and anticipation. Both catchphrases work for their users quite well.
