Good morning, and welcome to a Day of Dougie. I have four Q&As, plus five prediction columns for this upcoming weekend that are waiting to be written, but I don’t feel like tackling those right now. A Pepsi Zero, some jazz on YouTube, and about two hours or so later today will take care of all that.

Instead, I’m going to come to my favorite therapists, you folks, and just ramble a bit. My head is spinning so often as of late, but I’ll try to keep this at least semi-entertaining and keep the woe-is-me to a minimum. Yeah, let’s see how that works out.

I have to go to the doctor’s office in a little bit so time is not my friend. Maybe that’ll keep me from rambling for too long. Oops. Too late. But let me go to the Magic Bag, draw a few topics, and try to keep focused. I’ll add the life commentary between the meat of this diatribe. So, the topics of discussion for today are Family & Friends, Hot Stuff, and Cats in the Cradle. So see how this works out, shall we? I’m Doug. This is a Day of Dougie. And Mt. Dew Zero is better to take meds with than Ginger Ale. Let’s do this.

Cats in the Cradle

This one is pretty obvious, as it’s a reference to a great song by Harry Chapin called, duh, Cats in the Cradle. And we all know how it goes as the man talks about having a son and well, he turned out just like Daddy. Ugly Kid Joe did a cover of this song and nailed it as well. Truthfully, I prefer the UKJ version over Chapin’s version. It’s a great song and has a great message. And I just realized something as I was typing this. I didn’t turn out like my Dad or even my stepdad. I’d been much better off if I had. I have inherited some traits from my dad, such as his work ethic and stubbornness. I guess that I only got the good stuff. I got lots from Mom too. Well, at least the work ethic and stubbornness parts. But Mom and Dad both worked far too much and I was often left on my own, much like the song. Yeah, I can relate. One of my biggest regrets ever was never having a kid. Thank God that I got Kenneth instead lol. Best bro-son ever, period. Anyhow, it’s a great song. Here’s the video.

Hot Stuff

We all know these people. Just because they’re good-looking, have a great body, sexy eyes, rock-hard abs, a sexy ass, a personality, and a sense of humor, they think they’re all that. They think they’re Mister Hot Stuff. And damn, they’re usually right. But they also generally turn out to be ass clowns. Not all, but far too many often do. Those are the ones that you use for one night and then cut the ties and send their luscious ass home. Thanks for the experience and memories. Now, see ya! Let’s finish this up with the last topic.

Family & Friends

In my mind, they’re the same thing. Family is someone with a blood connection. Friends, who are family in my eyes, are those who life, fate, experiences, and common bonds have brought into our lives. And of the two, I prefer the latter. I love my blood family, but I often don’t like them very much. And the few friends that I have left that matter, I love and like them. We may not always be on the same page or walking in the same direction, but if I need them or they need me, we’re there. And that’s what matters. But friends and family can hurt you sometimes too. It’s not intentional, but when they mean more to you than you do to them, it does hurt. I was going to speak about some recent slights, by long-time friends, but I won’t. I’m not going to be that petty. There is a country music song that says that you find out who your friends are. And I have. I still love them. Bonds of thirty-plus years have meaning for me. And they’re still my family. I’m just not happy with them right now. Film at 11.

And there you go. Looking at the clock, I need to run for now, so that means no long-winded and fancy farewell. Let’s suffice it with thanks for reading, thanks for being a part of my crazy little life, and well, just thanks. Comments, thoughts, and questions are welcome. And I’ll see you later on. Have a great day, also known as a Day of Dougie. Love you, mean it.
