Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.

Who was the WWE champion when you were 13?

That would be 1979, so the WWE Champion at the time was Bob Backlund.

After fifteen years, Scott Stanford has left WWE. Thoughts?

No reason has been given as to why the long-time announcer is leaving WWE, but his message on Twitter was positive and appreciative, plus there was a hope to one day return. To me, Stanford didn’t really stand out, but he was a consistent part of WWE and always seemed to be there.

Would you want to see Carlos Silva get involved in a TNA storyline—or should he stay behind the desk?

Silva is an executive and part of TNA, but he doesn’t need to be on TV. Leave that to the wrestlers and on-air talent. He should handle the business behind the scenes and stick with what he knows.

Do you think letting Gail Kim go was the right call, or should TNA have found a better way to evolve without losing a legend?

Gail Kim was let go because TNA wanted to take the company and the Knockouts wanted to move in a different direction. TNA could have handled it better, but I can understand why they did what they did. Rather than work with Gail, they released her. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Do you think Goldberg made the right call choosing Atlanta for his retirement match?

Atlanta is the best place for this moment. Goldberg’s biggest career moments were in WCW, which was based in Atlanta. His biggest moment, beating Hulk Hogan at the Georgia Dome, was in Atlanta. Goldberg’s football career was in Georgia and Atlanta. And Goldberg is a resident of Atlanta. It’s the perfect place and having that match there is perfect.

Do you agree that WWE started having people do The Spear to make Goldberg seem less? Is Bron’s spear better than Goldberg’s?

I seriously doubt that WWE gave the idea of Goldberg any thought at all in allowing others to use the spear. Goldberg was retired and no longer an active wrestler. That means he was irrelevant in any decisions about finishing moves. He’s just overestimating his importance. As for Bron Breakker, he has the best spear in the business, bar none.

Do you think MJF has truly built a Hall of Fame-worthy career without WWE?

Not yet, but he’s on his way if he can keep things going for a few more years. He’ll be in the HOF one day.

Do you think TNA has a shot at becoming the second-biggest wrestling company in the world again?

If TNA can get a consistent television or streaming home to expand its audience, it will be the #2 promotion. The stories have been good and the live audiences have been exceptional. Everything is on the upswing with TNA. And AEW’s spot is in decline. It’s simple semantics. If things stay as they are, TNA will be the #2 wrestling promotion, while AEW will remain Tony Khan’s vanity project.
