Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
TNA is seeking a new Media Rights deal and is hoping to start going live weekly. And the President of TNA recently said that TNA may end up being sold. Thoughts?
The hopes for TNA are to secure a better home on television or streaming and air live each week. They’re thinking big, but with the increase in viewership and live attendance via the WWE/NXT crossovers, the possibility is there and it makes sense. So far as being sold, TKO has already bought a controlling interest in Lucha Libre AAA. Can a similar purchase of TNA be likely? We’ll just have to wait and see, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet is injured, so an Interim Champion will be crowned at the ROH SuperCard of Honor on Friday. Thoughts?
What is Tony Khan’s obsession with Interim Champions? And why all of the fuss over a television championship for a company that isn’t on television? So, we have a real champion, a stand-in champion, and eventually a match to unify the two belts. I guess it’s a long-term booking, but it seems like a major waste of time to me.
Should Liv Morgan return as a babyface or a heel?
When Liv returns, she’s going to be cheered at first and given a huge pop. But I remember Liv as a babyface and she was boring. Liv has really found herself as a heel and part of Judgment Day. I’d stick with the heel character.
Are you missing Pat McAfee’s energy on WWE RAW, or do you prefer the current duo with Corey Graves?
I miss the unpredictability of McAfee and if, despite new rumors, he stays with WWE, he should be reserved for PLE events or Saturday Night Main Event. So far as RAW goes, I’d keep Corey. He’s a much better color analyst and seems to have his snark back since his recent return. Yeah, I’d definitely go with Corey for RAW.
Do you think AEW is waiting too long to bring Britt Baker back to TV, or is this a smart way to build anticipation?
During her last appearance, she won over Kris Statlander and then vanished, pulled from TV. That was nine months ago. Any momentum she had, it’s wiped out and gone. If AEW is going to bring her back, they need to do it ASAP or else they may as well just release her and be done with her. This is NOT smart booking in any way, shape, or form.
Austin Idol versus LA Knight. Who wins?
The Universal Heartthrob was a good wrestler, but never what I would call a top guy in the ring. A great character, but in the ring, he was only as good as he needed to be and didn’t take it to the next level. LA Knight is a great character and he’s over like Rover, but I don’t feel that magic when he wrestles. He can go with the best of them, but I don’t get it. So we have two very similar talents in many ways. The promos and build for this match would be fantastic. The match itself? Solid, but nothing outstanding or special. LA Knight is more explosive in that ring and faster. I think that would make a difference. So, the winner would be, LA Knight. YEAH!
Tony Khan clarified recently that Mercedes Moné does NOT have any creative control in AEW, yet Mercedes has repeatedly claimed that she has full creative control. So, who’s lying?
It’s pro wrestling and we’re talking about a character on TV. What does it matter? I’m sure that Mercedes has creative input about her character and what she does, but Tony is the boss and the final word comes down to him. So, they’re both right and wrong. It’s wrestling and the Mercedes character is cringy at best. Who to blame doesn’t really matter.
Charlotte Flair recently admitted in an interview that she and The Four Horsewomen (Bayley, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks) are not necessarily close anymore and in some cases, are not even friends. Thoughts?
As time goes on, people change and friendships change. It’s just how things go sometimes. Charlotte also clarified that she and the other Horsewomen have mutual respect and a bond, even if they’re not particularly close anymore. So, they’re not taking vacations together or sending Christmas cards. It happens. No big deal.
If Charlotte were to form a new Four Horsewomen faction, who would you want to be the other three members?
Charlotte would be there. I think that Tessa Blanchard, just based on her last name alone, would be a must. Jaida Parker, from NXT, would make a great Enforcer. And round things out with Raquel Rodriguez. And in the managerial role made infamous by James J. Dillion, how about Baby Doll? She’s 63 years old, but in a Paul Heyman-like role as the spokesperson and voice of the Horsewomen, her history makes her perfect for the role. She still looks great and can talk, so why the hell not?
Is it a coincidence that WWE has THREE events this weekend when AEW is running from a baseball stadium?
Of course, it is. After all, WWE would never deliberately run a show opposite their top rival promotion, right? It’s all pure coincidence. Yeah, right. But in all fairness, AEW took quite a few shots against Triple H and WWE over the years and put themselves squarely in the bullseye. Actions have consequences and this is just the fallout.
