Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
Becky Lynch says that she and Seth Rollins are the greatest wrestling couple of all time. Yes or no?
Becky and Seth are two great talents, but how can they be wrestling’s greatest couple when they rarely interact or appear together? That puts a damper on the hype. Also, the fact that couples such as Stephanie & Triple H exist puts that claim into doubt as well.
Nick Khan believes WWE fans will follow the product from Peacock to ESPN. Is he right?
Some will, and others will not. Me? I’m still undecided.
Have WWE and the fans given up on Jade Cargill?
It seems that way. Cargill looks physically impressive, but she’s not improving in the ring or getting better as a worker or talker. She would work much better as part of a faction or as a special attraction than trying to work singles matches. The other women can only carry her just so far, and WWE’s patience can only last just so long. Unless she finds a way to pick things up and improve, she’s probably on borrowed time.
Wendy Choo has been in NXT for six years, and now she’s part of Evolve. Why isn’t she on the main roster yet?
Because she’s not that good. Choo is talented and unique, but she reminds me that much like Abdullah the Butcher back in the territory days, the schtick and gimmick get old fast. Use Choo too often, and the magic dies. Used sparingly as a special attraction, she can be an effective character. The main roster would expose her too much and kill the gimmick.
Roddy Piper, Rick Steamboat, and Ric Flair versus The Undertaker, John Cena, and Roman Reigns. Who wins?
The best of the NWA versus the best of the WWF. What an epic match this would turn out to be. It’s a tough call for me. Piper, Flair, and Steamboat are the better wrestlers. Taker, Cena, and Roman are the better characters. This would be a DQ finish or maybe a double count-out. But if there had to be a winner, the WWE guys would win on pure power alone.
Jack Swagger says that he’s retired from wrestling. Thoughts?
I hate to see this, but it’s not a surprise. That last run in AEW destroyed any credibility or aura that Swagger had left. He’s still young, healthy, and has a future ahead of him. Maybe one day, he might return, but for now, this is probably the best move for him. Enjoy the retirement, Champ.
What are your thoughts on former USWA star Jeff Gaylord?
I barely remember Gaylord, but I do recall he had the good look and was a standout performer for the USWA. He worked in Texas and Memphis but had legit backstage interactions with Eddie and Doug Gilbert, among others, and burned a lot of bridges along the way. Gaylord was later convicted of bank robbery and did some prison time. He passed away in 2023, aged 64, at a bus stop and was listed as homeless.
WWE is allegedly interested in signing Konnan to a Legend’s Deal. Thoughts?
Konnan is a Lucha legend and part of the Lucha Libre AAA family, so why not? This makes sense.
If you could make the call, what 5 non-WWE wrestlers would you sign to a Legend’s Deal?
Just off the top of my head, I would go with Disco Inferno, Alex Wright, Baby Doll, Missy Hyatt, and The Living Legend, Larry Zbysko.
Is Bruno Sammartino the best world champion of all time?
Bruno is arguably the best WWWF Champion of all time, but World Champion covers a lot of territory, and when names like Harley Race, Ric Flair, Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, Nick Bockwinkel, Verne Gagne, Lou Thesz, etc., are added to the conversation, it muddies the water too much for Bruno to legitimately make that claim.
