Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
Watching all of WWE’s primary content will cost fans an estimated $1000 or more a year after the move to ESPN. Thoughts?
For the average fan, that’s a lot of money, and I expect WWE numbers to dive. I know I’m already reconsidering a few changes in my viewing habits, and if someone like me is wary, you have to know that many other, more casual fans will be as well.
Karrion Kross was offered a deal by WWE, but didn’t accept it. He claims that he and Scarlett still want to be in WWE. Thoughts?
I just listened to the interview that Kross did with Ariel Helwani, and many things don’t make sense, and it sounds like a large amount of miscommunication is happening. Kross was offered a deal, had 24 hours to sign, asked for more information, and the deal was rescinded. Kross needs to skip the middlemen and reach out directly to Triple H, Nick Khan, or The Rock. If direct communication were happening, I’m sure a deal could be hammered out quickly to everyone’s satisfaction.
Tony Khan says that the claims about the lack of storytelling in AEW are false. Thoughts?
There is plenty of storytelling in AEW. Tony is right about that. It’s just that most of it is bad, rushed, and poorly done. It’s there, but it’s just not done well.
AEW is allegedly attempting to re-sign “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard to a five-year deal. Thoughts?
I don’t see Menard as a top star and why AEW is determined to lock him into a contract for five years, I don’t understand that either. But still, good for Menard for getting a deal and career security. Good for him.
When I ask you to name a wrestler from yesteryear that would be over in today’s landscape and could be World Champion, who immediately comes to mind?
The Boogie Woogie Man, Jimmy Valiant. He could work seriously as a heel, or do the whole Boogie Man character and get incredible reactions from the live crowds. Valiant was a special talent and would be a star in any era.
In 3 years, the 3 biggest stars in the WWE will be __.
Three years? Barring injuries, I’d say Dominik Mysterio, Ricky Saints, and Ethan Page.
Bret Hart says that most people in modern professional wrestling are “actors pretending to be wrestlers”. Thoughts?
Bret is watching too much AEW, it seems. But unfortunately, he’s right.
Shayna Baszler says she’s open to working as a producer for WWE. Thoughts?
That would be a great role for Baszler right now, in that it keeps her active in WWE, as part of the WWE family, and on their radar, plus keeps her in plain sight for when creative actually has a blast of common sense and finds a role or story that would work well for her. She’s definitely talented and smart enough. Let’s hope that someone in power takes the hint.
Delete one from WWE history: Cody Rhodes, Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, or John Cena.
Of the people listed, it’d have to be Cody. The others all have too big a history in the legacy and past of WWE, paving the way to get it where it is today. Cody has had a great past few years, but Drew McIntyre, AJ Styles, Miz, Austin Theory, etc., could have all filled that role if it came down to it.
Do you want to see Vince McMahon on WWE TV again?
No, I don’t.
