Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host, guiding light, and the man with the best mullet since Billy Ray. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
WWE NXT has beaten AEW Dynamite for 48 of the past 52 weeks. Thoughts?
Yet, according to Metlzer, and Tony Khan, for that matter, says that everything is great. NXT is just a C-show of developmental training, while Dynamite is the A-show for the #2 wrestling promotion. But the numbers don’t lie. So, does that make NXT #2 now? Works for me.
According to Meltzer, Tony Khan wasted his money when he signed Rusev for AEW. Thoughts?
According to Dougie, Meltzer is an idiot, and who cares what he says. Rusev would have worked better in AEW, but Tony doesn’t know how to book him or use him properly, much like Lance Archer, Wardlow, Britt Baker, Thunder Rosa, Ricky Starks, Danhausen, CM Punk, Adam Page, Cody Rhodes, etc. If it were just Rusev, then Rusev could be blamed. But there’s a pattern with one thing linking all of these names, and that’s Tony Khan.
Do you think NJPW should continue trying to run shows in the U.S. — or focus strictly on Japan again?
New Japan is cutting back on shows in the U.S. because ticket sales are down, and the big names don’t want to travel to America to work the shows. If it’s not profitable, New Japan is making the right call, and should, for now at least, focus on Japan and their home base.
Do you think Anthem should cash in on TNA Wrestling if the right offer comes in?
It depends on what the plans for TNA are, but if a great deal comes along, they should take it.
Do you think TNA needs to go live every week to compete in today’s wrestling world?
It’s not 100% necessary, but it wouldn’t hurt.
How long have you been a wrestling fan?
I’ve been attending live events and watching the wrestling on television since I was four years old, so I’m just over 55 years as a fan.
What’s your take on Matt Riddle’s career in pro wrestling? Do you think he will ever get another chance in WWE?
Riddle has charisma and talent, but the mouth, the attitude, and the constant speaking without thinking first are taking their toll, and his personal baggage seems to increase every time he speaks or appears in public. He’s destroying his own career, and no, I don’t think he’ll be back for either WWE or UFC. Bro is an idiot.
What are your opinions on the Don Callis Family?
The premier wrestling faction of AEW currently has ten members, including Callis. And who can name all the members? How does this mob scene help anyone? It’s like the nWo all over again, and every member is Louie Spicolli. I guess the next step is t-shirts, with half of the group wearing black & white, while the other wears red & black. I guess, as much as Tony likes to book multi-man tags to open events, it makes sense, kind of, but not really. It may have started as a good idea, but now, it’s just gone nuts.
Steve Borden, Sting’s son, will make his wrestling debut next month in New York City. Thoughts?
Steve is thirty-one years old, which is kind of late to start a new career as a professional wrestler, and his trainer is Darby Allin? Best of luck to Borden. Hopefully, he’ll be another DDP in the making and have a great career. But more likely, we’ll have another David Sammartino or Greg Gagne. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how he develops.
What do you think of Hook & Kingston as a team?
This team makes no sense, but it will at least get them on television and some ring time. Maybe they’ll have chemistry and turn out to be an exciting team. I doubt it, but it’s something to watch.
