Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host, guiding light, and the man with the best mullet since Billy Ray Cyrus. Are you ready? Let’s do this. One more until #5000. Yay for me.
Bruce Prichard on the length of wrestling shows: “Ten matches on a card is hard to watch – I think less is more”. What do you think is the correct number of matches for a wrestling show or PLE? Thoughts?
Bruce is right about ten matches being hard to watch and way too long, but paying WWE prices for four matches tops is totally insane. Yes, they are longer, but some matches are better when shorter and don’t need to run for twenty minutes. In my opinion, five to seven matches is generally the ideal for a show.
Do you want to see Chris Jericho show up in TNA?
What I expect is for Jericho to return to WWE, but during this final WWE run, he’ll make appearances in TNA, AAA, and NXT, being the perfect utility player, plus expanding his legacy to complete his resume and appear in the few promotions left on his bucket list. That seems best to me.
Drew McIntyre is the new WWE Champion. Thoughts?
Congratulations to Drew. He deserves it, and hopefully, this run will have the chance to last for a while, to give Drew a WrestleMania moment as the champion. It’s long overdue.
Elton Prince, of Pretty Deadly, has undergone neck fusion surgery. Thoughts?
Another example that shows William Regal is right about being careful and taking risks. This was a freak accident that happened during a match, and an example of how easily something can go wrong and put these men and women at risk. I hate this for Prince, as Pretty Deadly was easily one of my favorite teams in WWE, a guilty pleasure if you will. Best wishes to Prince for a full and speedy recovery.
The Don Callis Family. Too big, too small, or just right?
How many people are actually in the Don Callis family? I googled, and it says 15 members. Even the nWo, at its peak, didn’t have that many members, and The Horsemen, during their entire run, including managers, associates, and hangers-on, over their 14-year run in WCW. Callis doesn’t even go to the ringside with his wrestlers and instead does commentary. How much is too much? Callis passed it a long time ago with his family.
Would you want to see Trish Stratus step into the ring one more time? And if so, who should her opponent be in 2026?
I’d be open to seeing Trish return for a one-night-only type of event, but aside from that, not really. Maybe a one-time grudge match with a former rival like Mickie James, but Trish is a legend and better to be protected as a legend than wasted on a meaningless return. If Trish were to return, I think she and Roxanne Perez could have a good match.
Would you like to see Gabe Kidd in WWE or AEW?
Kidd has been making appearances in AEW, but isn’t under a current contract. His current deal is with New Japan, but it is set to expire soon. AEW hasn’t really done anything for him during his few appearances, so let’s go with NXT/WWE. Kidd has the potential to be a top star, and I think WWE would benefit him more than AEW will.
What are your thoughts on the Jim Ross & D-Von Dudley back-and-forth racist allegations?
They’re going back and forth over something that was allegedly said over two decades ago. Who the hell cares? Both men need to get together, have dinner, talk it out, and move on. People change, and what happened long ago doesn’t matter. Nobody who matters gives a damn. Move on, already.
Do you feel Cody Rhodes’ character in WWE is stale?
Cody has had a good run, but he’s in danger of falling into the Bob Backlund territory regarding the fans and appeal as a top guy. How long before the Howdy Doody chants begin? Cody needs a break from the spotlight, or a reboot of sorts. Cody is good, but boring. A few months off would work wonders for him now, or at least a break from the title, and a good feud like CM Punk did with Drew McIntyre. He needs to be removed from his comfort zone, and some changes need to be made.
Mercedes Moné announced that she is taking a hiatus from AEW over the disrespect. Thoughts?
If Mercedes is taking a break, what happens to the 11 Championship titles she currently holds? Does she keep all the belts, and they remain undefended? Are the titles vacated? I don’t really have a comment on Mone taking a break from AEW because it’s AEW, and wrestlers vanishing for months at a time is nothing out of the ordinary. She’s lasted longer than I expected her to, honestly. But what about all of the belts? Inquiring minds want to know.
WWE allegedly has strong interests in AEW star Powerhouse Hobbs. Thoughts?
Hobbs is a talented wrestler and would do well outside of the AEW environment with proper training and booking. I don’t know when Hobbs’ contract expires, but I hope that when the time comes, WWE does reach out and gives him an opportunity. He is being wasted in AEW.
Do you think Johnny Gargano can thrive again as a singles star on the main roster?
Unfortunately, the WWE roster is so large and bloated right now that I won’t be holding my breath for any huge Johnny Gargano push or role as a top star. Most likely, he’ll end up sitting next to Tozawa and Apollo Crews in WWE Catering, talking about the chicken salad. And when contracts expire, he’ll be on the chopping block. Gargano is a talented wrestler, but he doesn’t stand out much and will end up lost in the crowd as a singles star.
Should Marko Stunt make a return to wrestling?
I like Marko. He’s unique and personable, and brings a lot to the table by standing out and being different. But remember, he retired for a reason. His body wasn’t holding up to the rigors of being in the ring, and the long-term ramifications didn’t look good. If Marko wants to return to wrestling, be a manager, a commentator, or work in a non-wrestling capacity. Marko has a look and can talk, so there is no reason to take the physical abuse every night. I’d love to see Marko Stunt return to wrestling, but only if he does it wisely and safely.
