I can’t sleep so here I am with another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug and I’m your resident party host, Guiding Light, and sleepy ass dude. Are you ready to talk about some professional wrestling? Let’s roll.

SummerSlam 2026 will be moved to two nights in Minneapolis, MN. Thoughts?

I like this. WWE is moving to make SummerSlam their warm-weather version of Wrestlemania and it’s a good move. Wrestlemania is already the biggest wrestling event of the year and now it’s double the pleasure and double the fun. But seriously, I think it’s a great marketing move that will greatly increase the revenue that WWE brings in each year and help them continue their substantial growth.

Predict Cody Rhodes’ SummerSlam 2024 opponent.

Considering that the King of the Ring winner gets a title match at Summerslam, I’d say that most likely, Cody will be facing the Ring General, Gunther.

Mark Henry says that it’s time for the Velveteen Dream, aka Patrick Clark, to get a second chance with WWE. Thoughts?

If Clark wants to rebuild his reputation and career, he needs to start with the Indys, rebuild his reputation as a performer and a person, and work his way back up the ladder. Do the Independents first. Do TNA if possible. Do GCW if possible. If Clark can get over with the fans, be a model employee with the other wrestlers, and earn their trust and respect, the word will get back to the WWE. Then a true second chance may happen. But Clark needs to earn that opportunity first. He still has a long way to go.

Darby Allin made his return to AEW Dynamite last night with a flame thrower. A freakin’ flame thrower. Thoughts?

I thought I had seen it all, but a flame thrower? Really? I understand that part of wrestling is that we have to occasionally suspend our belief, but did anyone truly think he was going to blister one of the Young Bucks like a weenie over a campfire? Talk about jumping the shark. Oy vey! That was just too much.

What do you think AEW could do besides offering discounts on tickets to get more people to attend?

Create memorable characters and tell stories that people can invest in and want to see. That would be a good way to start.

Dewey Robertson & George Wells versus The Miz & R-Truth, the Awesome Truth. Who wins?

Most people may not remember these two, but Dewey Robertson was the man who would later become known as The Missing Link, while George Wells was a former NFL star who had a good run in the Mid-South and the Western United States in the early 80s. This team held the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship in early 1981. And we all know who The Miz and R-Truth are. This match would be interesting as Robertson was a powerhouse wrestler with some good moves, but no charisma or personality. Wells was the personality and threw an amazing dropkick if I recall correctly. It’d be an interesting clash of styles to be sure and probably a far better match than most would expect. Miz and Truth are better in-ring performers overall though and much quicker than their larger opponents. I think Awesome Truth would probably win.

Who would you book as the AEW World champ?

Of the current roster, if it was my choice, the current Champion would be the man himself, Christian Cage.

Triple H announced that the winners of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments will receive title shots at SummerSlam. Thoughts?

I like this as it makes the titles of King and Queen of the Ring mean something. It increases the status of the tournaments and helps to set the main events for SummerSlam, much as the Royal Rumble matches do for Wrestlemania. I guess it’s a good move by WWE.

What is your opinion of Jim Cornette?

One of the best announcers, managers, and storytellers of all time for professional wrestling. A true historian of the business who never fails to be entertaining. A true Hall of Fame-worthy legend. While I strongly disagree with his political beliefs and a few other things, his knowledge and insight of wrestling are beyond reproach.

Mercedes Mone says she is the greatest women’s wrestler of all time. Thoughts?

She’s speaking in character because I know, you know, and we know she knows that no matter how good someone is, there is always someone better. And while the former Sasha Banks has had some good matches over the years, I can think of many, both in the current era of wrestling and of days past, who were consistently better.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And with that, I’m out of here for now. It’s time to try and go to sleep for a few hours (again). Wish me luck. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
