Wrestling Fact Or Fiction
July 5, 2013
And here we are again. Independence Day is now over, as is my birthday (thankfully). Now it’s time to get back to bid’ness and into the swing of things. That means it’s time to do that Fact Or Fiction flow. So here you go. Let’s do this. As per usual, I “borrowed” most of the questions from 411mania. The answers though, are mine…
1. Vickie Guerrero will still be on TV whether or not she passes her job evaluation on Raw next week.
FACT: Vickie gets a reaction and heat from the fans that 99% of the talent would kill for. Vince and the McMahon’s love her and she does a fantastic job. I am pretty positive that as long as Vickie wants a job with WWE, she has one and will be featured in some capacity, be it an “executive type character”, a “manager” a “valet” or just to come out and piss people off with those two magic words. Vickie may have gotten her job for the wrong reasons, but she busts her ass and has earned her spot and regardless of how this storyline works out, she’s going to be around for a long time to come.
2. Fans of Ryback should not be worried about his position on WWE cards.
FACT: What? Ryback has fans? Who? I think he sucks! But I don’t think his fans (either of them) have too much to worry about. He got a push and now he’ll move slightly down the card to a mid-card role until Creative has something for him to do. He’s not my cup of tea by any means, but he’s a big guy with a big look. Put him with a manager or someone to act as his mouth-piece (Vickie perhaps?) and he can be a big star and play a major role for the WWE.
3. You’re excited about the Wyatt Family debuting next week on Raw.
FACT: I liked Bray Wyatt as “Husky Harris” and I’m pretty sure I’m going to like this too. The build and hype has been tremendous and I’m thinking that this is one set of characters (the Wyatt Family) that might actually be able to live up to expectations.
4. The Shield losing to Christian & The Usos on SmackDown was ok.
FICTION: While I’m not too upset about it since it was Christian on the winning team (and I am a loyal Peep), I still think it was wrong to have The Shield lose the match. They should have maybe gone for a no-contest or a DQ or even a count-out. I’m not saying that The Shield should be winning all the time, but for the time being, the losses should be few and far between and mean something besides a meaningless match on Smackdown.
5. Samoa Joe joining the Main Event Mafia makes sense.
FICTION: Joe is better as a solo-act who kills bitches dead. Being part of any team, especially one where he has to play second fiddle to Sting, Kurt Angle and some MMA punk, just doesn’t set right with me. Joe should be beating their asses – not joining and kissing them.
6. Austin Aries posing as Suicide was an interesting reveal on Impact Wrestling
FACT: It was “interesting”, as is almost everything that Aries does, but in the end, it will be a wasted moment and TNA will screw it up, because that’s just what they do.
7. You watched Celebrity Wife Swap featuring Ric Flair & Roddy Piper.
FICTION: I prefer to remember Flair as he was, not as the pitiful shadow of himself that he’s become. I’ll admit that there was a little interest at first, but as I heard more about it, I realized that watching Flair style and profile and make an ass of himself again on national TV was not anything I wanted to see.
8. Hulk Hogan was the greatest American hero in wrestling history.
FICTION: Long before Hulk Hogan was a “real American”, we had a gentleman known as “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes criss-crossing across the globe and showing the word just exactly what “the son of a plumber” could do in that ring. Hogan may have been pushed and shopped to more people, with the power of the WWE machine firmly behind him, but I never bought his character or liked him. Sgt. Slaughter may have been a contender at one point, but the whole “traitor” routine with The Iron Sheik and General Adnan disqualifies him. Hell, the most “real American” I can remember was “Captain Redneck” Dick Murdoch. He represented the America I know best and live in. Hogan had the powers-that-be behind him, but he’s not wrestling’s version of the “greatest American hero” in my eyes by a long shot.
9. You are enjoying the build to the Money In The Bank pay-per-view.
FICTION: I’m looking forward to the pay-per-view because it looks as if there will be some great matches. But after a strong first week of pushing and building towards the event, the WWE seems to have slipped into automatic mode and gone from a strong push to just ‘eh! I’m hoping that this last week coming up before the pay-per-view is good and really does a job in selling the pay-per-view, but so far, they’ve got a lot of work to do.
10. Taz was right to sign a new deal with TNA?
FACT: He would make more money with WWE to be sure, but he would also be lost in the announcer shuffle there too. They have JBL and Lawler, not to mention Miz, Alex Riley and William Regal (on NXT). WWE can’t even find a place for Jim Ross, arguably the greatest wrestling announcer of all time, in their roster, so what would they do with Taz? Better to remain a big deal and a big fish in the small pond than go back to the ocean and get lost in the rip-tide.
And you know what? That’s it for me today. Gotta a story to go finish and find me asexy man to flirt with. I’ve got one that I love to talk too, but unfortunately, he’s a straight boy and one of my best friends, but I can still talk trash and annoy the hell out of him, right… cause that’s what I do… lol. Have a great week and I’ll talk at you later.
See you at the matches.
