Am I A Conservative?

Okay, over at http://www.AddictingInfo.org, I found an article by a man named Bruce Linder called “You Might Be A Conservative If…” and I want to take a few minutes to respond to each of his “points”. He makes some comments that have some validity to them and on other comments, he shows that he’s a bit of an assclown. So I’m reposting his article with my comments / thoughts in parenthesis directly under his remarks. Enjoy!

1: You’re irate over the president taking so many vacation days on the taxpayer’s dime (61 thus far), but you thought George W. Bush earned every minute of his leisure time (196 days at the same point in his presidency).

(I think there’s a big difference between taking vacations at the family home in Crawford, Texas or else at Camp David and flying around all over the world, costing far more millions of dollars per trip than any vacation that President Bush or his family ever took.

2: You’re happy with your 40 hour work week, paid vacations and company-provided healthcare, but you’re strongly anti-union, because those commies haven’t done anything for you lately.

(N.C. has never been strong on unions, and I can’t see that changing anytime soon. Unions had their place and time and at one time, served a useful and needed purpose. But power corrupts and the unions of today are not looking out for the workers. It’s all about power and politics and they’re more problems now than help for the average workers..)

3: You strongly support the First Amendment and its guarantee of religious freedom to all, but you don’t think Muslims have a right to build an Islamic Community Center in Manhattan.

(Muslims have the right to build their Community Center anywhere they want to. That’s not the issue. The problem is that any Muslim Center in Manhattan, the site of 9/11 and the Twin Towers murders, would be wrong and disrespectful to everyone who lost friends or family in those attacks. They can build their Center there, but unless it’s to be intentionally hurtful and cruel, why would they want to?)

4: You believe Ronald Reagan was a devout Christian, even though he hated going to church, but any president who spends twenty years going to the same Trinity United Church in Chicago must be a Muslim.

(I don’t know if Reagan was a Christian or not and never really cared about it. Religious beliefs are between a person and their God. Reagan was a good leader though who helped build pride in America and came across as a strong leader. President Obama’s church and the Pastor that presides over it preaches racism, hatred of the white man and hatred of this country. I don’t think Obama is a Muslim. I do think he’s a racist and divider and doesn’t have much respect for our country and for being American. And the sermons and words of Jeramiah Wright, Obama’s minister for over twenty years, would back this up.)

5: You believe when a Republican governor creates a healthcare package with an individual mandate for everyone in his state, that’s a good idea. But when a Democratic president does it, suddenly it’s unconstitutional.

(What’s good for a state isn’t necessarily what’s good for an entire nation. And to be frank, I dont think that institutionalized health care and an individual mandate are the right direction for our country to take, regardless of who’s idea it is.)

6: You’re so enthused about demonstrating your Second Amendment rights, you can think of no finer place to brandish your pistol in public than at a presidential rally.

(I should be allowed to own my gun and protect myself. I do not think that threatening people at a rally or for any purpose, is right.)

7: You believe Bill Clinton was responsible for Osama bin Laden’s escape ten years ago, but thankfully George W. Bush caught up with him and killed him in Pakistan.

(Bill Clinton had him and let him get away. Bush’s people looked for him, but could never find him. Osama was killed under Obama’s watch. End of story.)

8: You believe in putting American jobs first, except when president Obama rescued 1.5 million GM and Chrysler autoworkers, because that was socialism.

(American jobs should come first, but if a company is mismanaged or failing, there’s a process called “bankruptcy” to help them survive. The government should not be in the car business or bailing out private companies.)

9: It angers you that you can’t communicate with the Mexican busboy at your local Olive Garden, but when you took a vacation to San Francisco’s Chinatown, you thought it’s quaint that so many Chinese-Americans are holding fast to their traditional language. Because that’s America!

(I don’t see anything wrong with speaking your native language sometimes, but if you’re going to live in the United States and be an American, you should learn english. It’s the language that the vast majority use and the one that’s used in 99.995% of signs, businesses, legal matters, etc. Learn it and use it.)

10: You deny that the lunatic who tried to murder Gaby Giffords was a conservative, even though he targeted a Jewish, pro-choice, pro gay rights, Democratic Congresswoman.

(I don’t know if he was a conservative or a liberal. I’ve heard him referred to as both, depending upon who you ask. And it doesn’t matter. He’s a lunatic and that’s all that matters.)

11: You thought it was perfectly normal that every president in history had an untethered right to raise the debt ceiling when warranted, but when Obama asked the GOP held congress to do it, you thought it only natural that it be tied to cutting Social Security and Medicare.

(The President can ask, but it’s up to Congress to pay the bills and their decision. Obama likes to spend, spend, spend and needed someone to call him on it… and the Congress did. By the way, I like how everyone blames the “Republican Congress” for thwarting Obama’s plans, but the Republican’s only control the House of Representatives. Democrats (Obama’s party) control the Senate and for the first two years of his administration, they controlled both houses. So how is everything the Republican’s fault?)

12: When the new 112th Congress was sworn in, you swooned as they promised to focus on “Jobs, jobs, jobs.” But when they pivoted, and went after NPR, Planned Parenthood and gay rights, you cheered.

(No, I didn’t cheer. I thought then and still think that they screwed up by playing these political games with the “hot topic” issues rather than concentrating on jobs. I don’t mind seeing them defund NPR and Planned Parenthood because the government (and our taxes) shouldn’t be paying for radio stations that only air one point of view or abortions. Abortions should be legal – I have no problem with that, but if a woman gets an abortion, why should we (the taxpayers) pay for it? The Republican leadership should focused on helping to create jobs and save the divisive crap for later on. Jobs are important – the rest of this stuff can wait.)

13: You accuse president Obama of raising your taxes to the highest point ever, even though they’re lower today than at any time since 1950.

(Our Government is also spending more than ever before and that’s what irks me about Obama. Our taxes are too high, but I can live with what I pay. I just get irked at all of the people who don’t pay any taxes and get those big refunds back at the end of the year (on taxes they didn’t pay). And the reckless spending.)

14: You believe the wealthiest Americans are “job creators,” and they are — but it doesn’t bother you that all the workers in those positions are in India, China and Malaysia, and they’re doing the jobs that our fathers once did.

(The wealthiest Americans are the ones who create the jobs – that’s fact. And while many companies have relocated overseas and are hiring foreign workers, it’s usually because the overzealous Government currently in power over-regulates and taxes them to death, trying to put them out of business. If the Government would back off and let the businesses do business and make money, more jobs would be created. Over-regulation and forced unions cost jobs. Excessive government costs jobs.)

15: You believe gays are anti-American, because their lifestyle is a threat to the children… unless they’re married to Tea Party-backed presidential candidates from Minnesota.

(Gays are no different than anyone else, just as American as anyone else, and are no more “threats” to children than anyone else. Matter of fact, most “gays” I know (including myself) are pretty damn awesome!)

16: You strongly defend individual freedom, but that freedom doesn’t include a woman’s right to decide her own healthcare needs.

(A woman’s healthcare needs are for her and her doctor to decide – no one else.)

17: You believe corporations are people too, and are deserving of the same rights as the rest of us. Just not the same obligations to pay personal income tax free of corporate loopholes, or penalties for massive criminal behavior and tax evasion. In these matters, corporations are deserving of special rights.

(Businesses are businesses and people are people – two different entities. I don’t care what the politicians or Supreme Court says – they’re wrong!)

18: And since corporations are now people too, you must believe in their right to a driver’s license, the right to marry, to adopt children, etc. These rights shall not be denied to Exxon, Halliburton and BP (but still immune from the right of the People to try, convict and sentence to death any corporation that conspires to commit a felony… because at that point, they’re suddenly not people again.)

(Two different things – already said that!)

19: You still believe Climate Change is a myth, and the recent record highs, lows, floods and droughts around the world coinciding with climate scientist’s predictions are all an amazing coincidence. Oh, and Al Gore is FAT!

(Climate change is a myth and lie fabricated by scientists – and yes, Al Gore is FAT!)

20: You believe when George W. Bush took the national debt from $5 trillion to $11 trillion, it was necessary for him to do so to keep America safe. But when Barack Obama added to it by trying to rescue the country from a second Great Depression, he was deliberately trying to destroy America!

(Bush’s additions to the debt came across because of 9/11, Katrina and the two wars against Afghanistain (necessary) and Iraq (not necessary). Obama’s additions to the debt, which far exceed Bush’s by the way, are because of bailouts, refusals to cut spending, and bad financial management by a man who hasn’t even had a budget in over five years (thanks to his buddy, Harry Reid.))

21: You believe America is a God fearing country, and that the Almighty protects those who believe just as you do. But it’s never crossed your mind that the majority of tornados, hurricanes and floods all occur in the Bible Belt.

(Honestly, I’ve never really thought too much about this. But most of the recent hurricanes seem to be hitting the north-east harder than anyone else. At least it seems that way to me.)

22: You believe that no matter who’s in the White House, the office, if not the man himself is deserving of your respect. The only exceptions to this rule, are if his middle name sounds Muslim, and if he’s not at least as white as that black guy who works down in the mailroom at the office.

(The office of the President of the United States deserves respect, but it’s hard to show respect to a person who doesn’t respect the office himself or anyone else. It has nothing to do with his name or race, but how he conducts himself as our leader and President. And in that area, the current occupant of the White House is extremely lacking.)

And there you go. I replied to all of the comments by this guy and let’s see how it goes now. Am I a conservative? Nope, not really. Am I a libtard sheep? Not hardly either. I’m just Dougie… I’m just me. And that suits me fine.
