Tossing Salt Presents: Wrestling Fact or Fiction II
April 16, 2017
Good morning and Happy Easter Sunday to all of my friends, readers, stalkers and those two people who don’t really like me, but can’t seem to stay away. How is everyone doing this fine, beautiful morning. I know that April, the Giraffe, is doing much better. She FINALLY had that baby yesterday. The only problem is now, what will we all be obsessed with for every waking moment of our lives? I guess we can always just go back to wrestling, right? Or the next exotic animal to get knocked up, whichever you prefer.
Anyways, it’s time again to do that Fact or Fiction thing for the “King of Sports”, professional wrestling. I know that I just did a wrestling version of the “FoF” a couple of days ago, but those were my questions / statements. The six I’m using today come from my long time close, personal friends over at the 411mania.com/wrestling site. They supplied the statements. I’m supplying the answers. And now, let’s get ‘er done and do this.
1. The Superstar Shake-Up was poorly executed, because there was never a real explanation in regards to the moves.
FACT: There was no rhyme or reason to the switches and no explanation given for why this person went here while that person stayed on their brand. It all just happened with folks showing up and saying, “I’m here!”. I actually preferred this over the “Drafts” that they do occasionally, but it would have been nice to see some negotiating between Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan, for example and at least some kind of reasoning given for the changes.
2. You are excited for Drew McIntyre’s run in NXT.
FACT: I wasn’t really a big fan of Drew’s when he first arrived in the WWE as Vince McMahon’s “Chosen One”, but he grew on me over time and by the time he was relegated to being part of 3MB with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal, I had become a big fan. And then, after being released by WWE, Drew became the world traveler, rebuilding his career and working his ass off on both sides of the ocean. He worked hard, got better and better and it all paid off for him when he signed with TNA and moved quickly up the ranks to become the “Grand Champion”. And now, less than a year later, he’s come back home to the WWE, via the NXT brand. Like Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Finn Balor and so many others, it’s just where he needs to be and all of that hard work has paid off. I expect we’ll see him on the main roster for WWE within the year, but right now, it’s just time to sit back and enjoy this man showcasing his talent and showing us all again why it’s so good to see him back.
3. While the Superstar Shake-Up could have been executed much better, you are happy with the roster changes.
FACT: Things had become a bit stale on the two main WWE programs and change was needed to shake things up and freshen things up. The changes in names on each roster and the talent switch did just that and I think things should improve a great deal now.
4. The recent JBL/bullying drama looks very bad for the WWE, considering their relationship with BE A STAR.
FACT: It doesn’t look good, but let’s remember that everything being said right now is merely speculation. Neither JBL or Mauro have made any public comments and are probably hoping it will all blow over. I really don’t expect JBL to get punished for this in any way since his reputation and history go back so far and no one in WWE can be surprised by these charges. JBL is a bully, pure and simple. But that being said, wrestling has a long history of bullying, pranks, ribs and paying dues that can get pretty extreme at times. JBL is old school and everything he’s been accused of doing was pretty common in earlier eras and not only tolerated, but encouraged to weed out the people who didn’t have the proper toughness that was thought to be needed to make it in wrestling and keep the image strong. I expect that it’ll get hotter and hotter for a while and JBL might end up making some kind of public apology, but that’ll be the end of it. And the folks at “Be A Star” might grumble a little bit, but considering all the aid and money and publicity they get from working with the WWE, they won’t push too hard on this and rock the boat. This will all blow over soon enough.
5. To fully put over the Braun Strowman ambulance attack from Raw, Roman Reigns needs to be off of WWE TV FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS; he’ll be back on Monday.
FACT: Actually, two weeks is, in my opinion, kind of rushing things. Keep Roman off TV for at least the next couple of weeks before allowing him to come back at the next RAW pay-per-view. Then we can have a confrontation, but Roman won’t be “medically cleared” to wrestle so he’ll have to bide his time and pick his spot. Milk the injuries and draw this out and help build the anticipation for when Roman and Braun fight. A long and brutal feud can be money waiting to be made and WWE needs to quit rushing things and let things happen at a more natural pace. It’s definitely what would be “best for business”.
6. A hot dog is a sandwich.
FACT: It’s a piece of meat surrounded by bread. Of course it’s a sandwich. What else would it be? Speaking of hot dogs, that sounds like a good idea for lunch later. Hmmmm…
And there you go. That’s all for now, my friends. Thanks for reading. Questions and comments can be sent to my e-mail at Doug28352@yahoo.com. Have a Happy Easter. And I am down and gone. Catch you later, alligator.
