Wrestling Q&A – July 6, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Q&A
July 6, 2017
dougmaynard.com

Good afternoon and damn, if it’s not a hot one. The heat index says it feels like 105 degrees out there and I believe it. I did some running around earlier, paying bills, getting the hair cut, etc… and it was rough. There’s no A/C in my Blazer and it was NOT a pleasant experience. Now I know how… damn, I just went blank. I hate it when that happens. It’s freakin’ hot though.

And none of that talk about the weather has anything to do with what I’m getting ready to do. I just wanted to be polite and make small talk before I jump into the real reason that I’m here and that’s the greatest sport of all time, professional wrestling. It’s time to do some of that Q&A stuff that I like to do. And by the way, this is the official “first post” for DougMaynard.com. I guess that means I’d better make this one really good or entertaining. Crap! I don’t need this kind of pressure in my life. Let’s just jump to it, shall we? The questions come from Facebook, mainly from the KOK. The answers come from me. And cheese comes from Wisconsin. And away we go. Let’s do this…

Count says, “Since its the 4th, I wonder who’s your favorite U.S. Champion of all time?”

There have been many, many great men to hold on to that title, but my personal favorites include Blackjack Mulligan, Wahoo McDaniel, Booker T, Ric Flair, Jimmy Snuka and the current “Face of America” Kevin Owens. My favorite though, has to be the man who set the bar and set the standard of what the United States Champion or what any champion should be, the first man to hold the title way back in 1975, the great Harley Race.

Andrew asks, “Best “American” gimmick?”

Is is “Mr. America” Hulk Hogan? It is the very patriotic Lex Lugar? How about the real life GI Joe, Sgt. Slaughter? How about The Patriot? Maybe it’s “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan? Wearing the red, white and blue has been used by so many wrestlers over the years, it’s hard to pick just one name. I think I’ll just be an ass and go with the current “Face of America”, Kevin Owens. “Why?”, you ask? Because I can.

From Corey: “It’s 4th of July and of course we are about to watch the hot dog eating contest. That being said.  You can pick one wrestler past or present to try to beat Joey Chestnut, who would you pick?”

I was tempted to say Sunny (Tammy Sytch) because we all know she’s taken a ton of wieners over the years, but then I remembered watching part of her video last year and while she’s certainly up there in quantity, her skill set is extremely lacking. (Insert tasteless joke here!) I guess I’d just go with Andre the Giant. A few dozen (or more) hot dogs, followed by a few dozen (or more) beers. I can see that.

Edwin asks, “TNA vs WWE. Abyss vs Kane (In their prime) – Who do you think would win this one?”

No offense to Abyss, but Kane is definitely the better wrestler of the two, and in far better shape as well. Abyss would be blown up in ten minutes or less and Kane would just be getting warmed up. Have to go with the “Big Red Monster” in this one.

Kevin asks, “Out of these three men who was the worst WCW Champion? Jeff Jarrett, Vince Russo or David Arquette?”

Jarrett is actually a good wrestler and considering the roster of WCW at the time, was not really a bad choice. David Arquette should not have had that title around his waist, but I understand why and respect the man and what he did with his paycheck from WCW, helping out the family of Brian Pillman. Russo should never have had the chance to book himself into the title and actually shouldn’t have been any part of WCW or wrestling at all. I was willing at one time to give him the benefit of the doubt about stuff, but he’s just a liar, a quack and an idiot-bro! Fuck Russo!

James asks, “Jeff Jarrett: Will he ever go into the WWE Hall of Fame?”

Nope!

And I’m ending this here. I have a few more questions to get to, but I promised my brother and his mini-me that we’d go out this afternoon and feed the ducks at the local college. I can write anytime, but the family has to come first so I’m out of here for now. Thanks for reading. Questions, comments and thoughts are welcome. Give me some feedback, Peeps! And I’ll be back later this afternoon. Take care.
