Coming up on Sunday, March 3, 2024, is AEW Revolution, live on pay-per-view from Greensboro, NC. It’s a stacked event and it’s Sting’s last match before heading back up to the rafters in retirement. That means it’s prediction time. I’m Doug, your Guiding Light and party host here at DougMaynard.com. Let’s roll.

Tornado tag team match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Sting and Darby Allin (c) (with Ric Flair) vs. The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson).

Have we mentioned that this is Sting’s last match? I’m not thrilled about The Young Bucks being picked as Sting’s last opponents, but I will admit that the build to this match has been one of the better things in AEW over the past month. Seeing Sting come down from the rafters on Dynamite this week was a great touch and has sparked my interest in this match. The big question here is will we see Sting and Darby, with the aid of Ric Flair, overcome the evil EVPs and go out on top, or will the dastardly Buckaroos ruin the night for the Icon and become the most hated heels in the company? I was thinking it would be the latter, but then I started thinking and I don’t think even Nicholas and Matthew are that dumb.

Take the pin and let Sting get the win in his final match and have his moment. The fans are happy and The EVPs look like adults for a change for doing the right thing. Sting gets his moment and the world is a better place. And now, here’s the swerve.

Sting and Darby win and Sting retires. The tag team titles are forfeited and AEW gears up for a tournament to determine new champions. But on Dynamite next week, the EVPs decide that AEW doesn’t need a tournament and appoint themselves the new AEW Tag Team Champions. So Sting has his moment and the Buckaroos are major heels who use their power to become the Champions. It works for everyone involved.

Winners and STILL AEW World Tag Team Champions: Sting & Darby Allin

AEW International Championship
Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Roderick Strong (with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett).

It’s the numbers game, but Orange has the Best Friends and Danhausen backstage to cover his back so it’s a moot point. I think it’s time for a new International Champion, but what I think doesn’t matter. Cassidy is one of Tony’s top guys and I think he’ll keep his title.

Winner and STILL International Champion: Orange Cassidy

Three-way match for the AEW World Championship
Samoa Joe (c) vs. “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana).

Is Page still even in this match? I know he pulled a swerve on Swerve on Dynamite, but I can’t remember if he’s still in the match or not. I didn’t pay that much attention and I’m too lazy to look it up. Joe is a good champion, but so far, his reign has been kind of boring and stale, at least to me. I think we’ll see a new champion and his name. It’s Swerve Strickland.

Winner and NEW AEW World Champion: Swerve Strickland.

AEW Women’s World Championship
“Timeless” Toni Storm (c) (with Mariah May and Luther) vs. Deonna Purrazzo.

Purrazzo has no buzz or momentum. She’s a former TNA Champion and a great wrestler, but so far, her time in AEW has been boring as heck. Toni Storm is one of the few characters in AEW that they’ve gotten right. She creates a buzz and has that energy and aura of “It” about her. That Women’s Championship is staying with the Timeless One.

Winner and STILL AEW Women’s Champion: Toni Storm.

Continental Crown Championship (AEW Continental Championship, ROH World Championship, and the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship)
If Danielson loses, he has to shake Kingston’s hand.
Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Bryan Danielson.

Has Danielson worn any gold since coming to AEW? I honestly don’t think that he has. And he won’t start here. This is all about getting Kingston over and elevating him to the next level as a top guy. The meaningless title isn’t doing it so maybe a match with Bryan Danielson will work. Who knows? I’m looking for Kingston to win.

Winner and STILL Continental Crown Champion: Eddie Kingston.

Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita.

I know this isn’t Ospreay’s debut, but he’s a big deal and this is the start of his full-time run with AEW. He’s not going to lose. Takeshita has manager Don Callis in his corner so with any loss, the blame can be shifted to Callis and it won’t hurt Takeshita at all. And damn you, Jim Cornette. I can’t look at Takeshita’s name and not think, “Take a shit!”. I’m looking for Ospreay to take a shit all over Takeshita in this match.

Winner: Will Ospreay.

AEW TNT Championship
Christian Cage (c) (with Killswitch, Mother Wayne, and “The Prodigy” Nick Wayne) vs. Daniel Garcia.

I like Daniel Garcia and I think he’s going to wear gold sometime soon. Will this be the night? The odds are stacked against him, but maybe Killswitch will finally turn on Christian and come to the side of the angels. For some reason, I’m thinking that there will be at least one title switch on this show and this one seems the most likely. It could make Garcia a star and just imagine the heat Christian could get when he shows up on Dynamite to complain and raise hell on Wednesday over the injustices against him. It would be great. Let’s roll with it.

Winner and NEW TNT Champion: Daniel Garcia.

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli).

FTR is the better tag team and should win. Moxley and Claudio are the big stars and Moxley at least, has Tony’s ear. FTR should win. They won’t.

Winners: Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli.

8-Man Scramble. The winner receives a future AEW World Championship Match.
Chris Jericho vs. Wardlow vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lance Archer vs. Hook vs. Brian Cage vs. Magnus vs. Dante Martin.

They canceled the Meat Madness match for this. Tony Khan said that the Meat match was canceled due to injuries, but all three of the participants that were booked in the Meat Match are participating in this one. Me thinks Tony is telling a falsehood. Whatever? It’s an odd mix of characters, but let’s be honest. Jericho, Archer, Hook, Cage, Magnus, and Martin are not winning. It’s Hobbs, who has been looking great as of late and has some momentum, or it’s Wardlow, who AEW is seemingly trying to push again after two years of stop-start-stop booking. I’d love to see Hobbs in the title picture, but he’s got plenty of time ahead of him and so long as Don Callis is there as his manager, that baggage will hold him back. Let’s go with Wardlow for this one.

Winner: Wardlow

And there you go. It’s Friday night as I write this so if any new matches are added between now and Sunday, I’ll be back and make a prediction for them. Only 8 matches are scheduled for now. You know there will be more lol.

Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. What are your predictions for this event and Sting’s last match? Let me know. And with that, let’s wrap it up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.

And here we are late Saturday night and two more matches have been added to the Kickoff Show. So more predictions for you on an already loaded card. You’re welcome.

Kickoff Show: Julia Hart and Skye Blue vs. Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale (with Stokely Hathaway).

Isn’t Julia Hart the TBS Champion? Why is she in a random tag team match instead of defending her championship? I guess Tony realized that there was only one Women’s match on the show and wanted to throw another match on the show to make sure the ladies are well represented and what the hell, make it a tag match. I don’t get this company sometimes. Hart & Skye Blue win.

Winners: Julia Hart & Skye Blue

Kickoff Show: The Acclaimed & The Gunn Club & Jay White) vs. Jeff Jarrett & Satnam Singh & Jay Lethal & Private Party & Willie Mack.

I at least get half of the idea for this match. The Acclaimed and the Gunn Club, aka The Bang Bang Scissor Gang, are popular with the fans and are entertaining so give them a match and make everyone happy. That makes sense. But the opposing team? Jarrett, Singh, and Lethal are a faction so that part of the team makes sense, but when did Private Party and Jarrett’s group start hanging out together? And aren’t they heels? Willie Mack has always been a good guy, or at least as I remember. When did he turn heel? This match is just a reason to throw twelve more names on the card and bring the number of matches that no one will remember from 8 to 10. It just doesn’t make sense or have a reason for being. Oy vey. Look for the Gunns, the Acclaimed, and Jay White to get a quick win.

Winners: The Bang Bang Scissor Gang

And there you go. Have a great one and be good. I’ll see you at the matches.

Ubuntu!
