Random Thoughts and Life Updates
Still Talking
Doug Maynard
It’s early in the day, but damn, what a day this has been already. There are so many things, good and bad, flowing in my head right now, it’s pretty wild. I just want to address a few of the things and clear my mind. This is just some unfiltered Doug-speak. I guess almost three weeks of no human contact, except my Mom, is beginning to wear on me. But let’s just get to it. It might get rather random at times, but it’s me, so would you expect any differently?
We’ll start with my foot. I still have it. The doctors wanted a full amputation and I chose to come home instead. They removed the big toe and a large portion of the foot, but what’s left still works and is sufficient to continue a fairly productive life. It looks like raw meat that’s been gnawed on by a hyena pack, but I’m keeping it clean and the dressings changed. I go back to the Wound Center next Friday and we’ll proceed from there. The pain is incredible. I have a high pain tolerance, but this is pretty excessive. It doesn’t matter. I’ll endure. No meds. Just gritting my teeth and moving on.
I had to deal with a scammer on the FB Messenger this morning. They were convincing and even presented an ID of the person they were pretending to be, all in a desire to ‘help me’, and to click a link. I caught on quickly though and did the whole block thing. The conversation wasn’t right and they were chatty. But they were also pretending to be my neighbor and when I suggested they come on over to show me the stiff in person, they tried to switch it up. More annoying than anything else, but it didn’t work. I’m slacking though. Normally, in a situation like this, I tend to talk dirty. Very explicitly. And it can get bad. I haven’t gone that route yet. Instead, I simply confirmed with my neighbor that it wasn’t them and did the whole blocking thing. It’s not as much fun, but works equally as well.
Let’s move on to politics. This is probably a taboo subject to most, but it’s so overwhelming, that it can’t be ignored. People are just damn dumb. Let’s take the personalities of Trump and Kamala out of it and just look at their positions, the actions they’ve performed in the past, their records, etc. Forget the hyperbole and talking heads. Look at the big picture of things. And make a decision. It’s not that hard. But I hear so many blatant lies from both parties, and the voters just seem to be eating it up. Whatever happened to independent thought and comprehension?
Is Trump perfect? Nope, he’s a blowhard, thin-skinned, and in many ways, a loud-mouthed bully. But he’s also too egotistical to allow for failure. The policies of his first term worked and our country was better for it. We had record unemployment. Inflation was down. No new wars were being started anywhere in the world. And the rate of illegal immigration was declining. And this was despite being fought with every step of the way by the powers that be in Washington, both Democrat and Republican.
And then we had the pandemic and the world went crazy. Everything was turned upside down and common sense seemed to vanish from our world and lives. It became about identity politics and the extreme fringe. Why are people talking about 8-year-olds being transgender? Rather than dealing with mental illness, the focus became on punishing the masses rather than dealing with the individual. Homelessness and drug addiction became overwhelming and criminal activity is not illegal unless the person doing it doesn’t agree with your politics. Delusions are encouraged over facts or science and if someone doesn’t agree with the make-believe, it’s their problem and they’re the ones at fault.
Our world has gone insane. There is no true justice or fairness. It’s whatever happens to be trending at the moment and independent thought is not only discouraged but ridiculed and frowned upon. Whatever happened to the simple things like being respectful, but honest? Love thy family and country. Have pride in who you are and your identity, as an American. Whatever happened to respect and love for God? You don’t have to believe in the ‘guy in the sky’, but why ridicule others who do? Whatever works for you, so be it. Be happy. But what works for one person doesn’t always work for someone else in the same way. I’m a simple man. Do unto others, be respectful, but honest, and do the homework. Research and learn, not from one source, but multiple sources. And in today’s world, I’m the different one. I’m the bad guy. It’s just insane.
There are no easy solutions to make things better. But adding to the fire and pouring gasoline on the blaze won’t make it go away. And that’s what our world, the woken political left, encourages. We’re freaking doomed. Trump isn’t perfect, but at least he’s a counter to some of the lies and manipulation by our Government. He’s better than Harris, who is easily the most phony and fake politician I’ve ever seen. I wish there were other alternatives, but given the options, there isn’t any other choice. Trump 2024.
One last thing and I’ll quit. One of the biggest Democratic talking points is about saving Democracy. Yet their candidate was appointed, did not win a single vote in a single primary, and when Biden was forced out, was inserted into the role as the Democratic candidate. Trump did at least go through a primary process to earn his party’s nomination. Kamala didn’t. That’s called hypocrisy and is far more of a threat to democracy than anything President Trump could say or do.
And finally, I want to mention a tragedy that happened early today here in Laurinburg, NC. An 18-year-old employee at the Waffle House was murdered. The murderer, who has not been arrested or identified as of yet, was annoyed about waiting on food or whatever and fired two shots into the crowded restaurant as he was leaving. And this kid died. It’s so random and pure insanity. The guy was working to make a living and hadn’t hurt anyone. From everything I’ve read, he was just a good dude, friendly and outgoing. And now he’s dead.
It doesn’t make sense. People today have become so cold-blooded and evil. This murderer probably hasn’t given it a second thought except for maybe the inconvenience being a killer might cause in his life. People just don’t care anymore. Our nation has become an evil place where morals, decency, or common respect don’t exist. I spent so many years working with people in customer service. I worked the third shift for so many years and most of them, I was alone. It was sketchy back then, but now, there would be no way that I would ever do that. No one should have to do that. This kid was in a crowded restaurant, doing his job, and trying to help others as quickly as he could. And he’s dead. I hope they find the killer and he’s given street justice. And then arrested, locked up, and dealt with through the system. The system is broken and totally corrupt. This guy took a life and has destroyed many other lives as well, all in one quick reaction, because he was annoyed and didn’t think. There is no redemption. He’s not deserving.
And I’ve spoken enough for now. Probably too much, but I’m tired of staying quiet and dealing with the BS. My time in this world grows short and I can’t keep lying to myself and pretending all is great. It’s not. Comments, thoughts, and questions are welcome. I’ll see you later.
