I’m Doug and welcome to Wrestling Fact or Fiction. My thanks to Jake Chambers at 411mania.com for coming up with these statements. The opinions that follow each statement. That’s all me. Let’s get busy, shall we?
Statement #1: The CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood was the best WWE match of 2024 so far.
FACT: A good story that had several ups & downs, kept us on an emotional roller coaster, and climaxed in an extremely fulfilling way. This was easily some of Punk’s and Drew’s best work. And it delivered.
Statement #2: You are excited for ANOTHER Kevin Owens heel turn.
FACT: I’m a little mixed on this one, but Owens has always been a better heel than a babyface and this one kind of makes sense. He was trying to do right, but Cody & Roman teaming up after all Roman had done, was just too much for KO to take. Yes, KO does too many changes, but this one was brewing and makes sense.
Statement #3: WWE has successfully “sportswashed” Saudi Arabia for the WWE fanbase.
FACT: The Saudis have gone from being The Great Satan to just another place WWE can have a cool PLE event and put on a show that’s always a little different than the usual WWE event. The crimes and activities of the Saudi Government are brushed aside with great PR from WWE. And yes, it works. It humanizes the Saudis in that they love wrestling just like us. They can’t be that bad. WWE has helped rehab the Saudi’s reputation a great ways and got paid very well to do so.
Statement #4: You definitely want to try Wendy’s Saucy Nuggs after it was featured in advertising all around the arena during the Bad Blood main event.
FICTION: I don’t go to Wendy’s due to a couple of incidents over the past few years. A friend of mine found a chunk of something in his hamburger. And a person I do not like worked there for a long time and well, I refuse to go where this bitch was working. Yes, I’m petty like that. So all of the commercials and product placement aren’t going to change my mind. I don’t go to Wendy’s. Period.
Statement #5: The bodyslam is an outdated wrestling move.
FICTION: I’ve taken a bodyslam from a friend in the center of that ring and it knocks the breath out of you. It’s simple, yet effective. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. The bodyslam works. Nothing outdated about that.
Statement #6: Ricochet will be a regular main event-er in AEW over the next few years.
FICTION: Ricochet will get the push until Tony gets bored with him and then he’ll be forgotten except for random matches every so often. Former WWE guys not named Moxley, Jericho, and Danielson only get the big matches until the newness wears off. And then they’re just filler on the show to take up space. We’ve seen it so many times before and I don’t see Ricochet being any different.
And there you go. Again, my thanks to Jake Chambers of 411Mania.com/wrestling for allowing me to play with his toys. And thanks to the loyal fan base for reading. I truly do appreciate it. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Be sure to tell all your friends and like, share, and subscribe. And I guess that’s it for now. Stay well, my friends, and I’ll see you at the matches/
