Music Fact or Fiction

Are you ready to take a look at some of the current hot topics from the world of music and decide if they’re really all that or not? That’s what we’re fixing to do. It’s the weekly “Music Fact or Fiction” thingy that we do each week. The statements I’m commenting on come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And the opinions are all mine. Let’s do this…
Blac Chyna’s music career won’t be successful.
FACT: Aside from hooking up with the guy Kardashian, who even is this chick? She’s a nasty looking money grabber with big boobs and a bad attitude. Can she sing? Who knows? Does anyone even really care? I sure as hell don’t. The sooner she and all of her reality TV scum-bucket associates go away forever, the better. I’m sure that Chyna has a talented mouth, but I doubt it has anything to do with singing. She’s already had her 15 minutes of fame. Next please.
You enjoyed Lil Wayne’s new song “Like A Man.”
FICTION: I went and listened and tried to give it a shot, but Lil Wayne has never really done anything for me and as his career has progressed, the music sucks more and more. So does he. At least he was once good, so that’s something, but to get back on the right track and make decent stuff again, he’s got a long way to go.
Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” is deserving of its classic song status.
FACT: It’s an iconic song by a true country music legend. It’s still as good and fresh now as when it was released 40 plus years ago. And it created a cool musical rivalry between Campbell and David Allen Coe over who was the true “Rhinestone Cowboy”… (My picks would be Webb Pierce or Chet Atkins). It’s a classic and it’s good, which is all we can ask for.
Jason DeRulo wouldn’t do well in country.
FICTION: And this is who? So long as he’s real and sincere and the music is true and good and he treats country music and it’s fans with the respect it deserves, he’ll be okay. Talent rises above everything else and if he’s the real deal, he’ll make it okay. And if he’s a poser and a fake, karma will notice and do her thing. That’s how things work in country music.
News of a new Miley Cyrus album is not very exciting.
FACT: I’m not excited but then again, Miley hasn’t really excited me in a long time. If the music is good and she’s gone back to her roots (and started acting sane again), I’ll probably look it up and give it a listen. She’s got a great voice and could be one helluva top star if she chooses to go that route. If we get good Miley, I’m interested. If we get “look at me – I need attention” Miley, I’m not. ‘Nuff said.
You’re interested in the new Velvet Underground documentary.
FACT: I like documentaries if they’re done correctly and no one can deny that Lou Reed and his band, Velvet Underground, were extremely fascinating and interesting people who have one hell of a story to tell. I’m a long time fan of Reed and always ready to learn more, taking that walk on the “Wild Side”. Bring this new documentary on. I’m ready.
And there you go with another “Fact or Fiction”, music edition, in the books. Questions, comments and all feedback is welcome. Thank you for reading. And now, I think I need to go take a smoke. Oh wait, I don’t smoke. Well, Pepsi it is then. Have a great night and I’ll catch you later. Take care.
Ubuntu!
