Music Fact or Fiction

It is bright and early on Sunday morning. Well, not really so early, but it is bright. It’s already freakin’ hot out there. I don’t like heat or sun or daytime or any of that stuff. Yes, I’m a certified night owl. This daylight stuff though? Uugh! Let’s talk music and the “Music Fact or Fiction” thing that I like to do. The items and topics of comment come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. The rest of it comes from me. Let’s just do this.

Regardless of whether or not Confederate statues should be replaced, a Missy Elliott statue replacement is a bad idea.

FACT: People need to leave the statues alone and get back to their lives of whining, crying and being burdens on society instead. It’s about history and heritage and I’m pretty sure that not a single one of these idiots crying about the Confederate statues was ever a slave, knows anyone who was a slave or anyone who had slaves. They didn’t know they were offended by the statues until they were told to be offended and like the mindless sheep that most of them are, they just follow along and now the statues are the worst thing ever. They can’t tell you why or explain themselves, but they can’t bear to have these statues, which most of which have been around for decades, still exist. And replacing one of these statues with one of Missy Elliott? Dumb as a box of rocks. If it was Waylon, then maybe, but recording artists can not replace war memorials. It’s just that simple and anyone who thinks different can go suck a big one.

Katy Perry is a good choice to host the VMAs.

FACT: Sure. Why not. She’s attractive, good personality, a talented entertainer and the people like her. Go for it!

Miley Cyrus’ “Younger Now” song was better than her last album.

FACT: I like the song and it’s kind of catchy. It looks as if Miley is starting to realize that the shenanigans will only get her so far and it’s the music that matters. The last album was about shock and awe and creating an image. This one seems to be about making music. Definitely a good move for Ms. Miley.

It was ridiculous to charge Elvis fans nearly $30 to visit his grave.

FICTION: Elvis’ estate wanted to make some money and it’s the 40th Anniversary of his death. They’re a private company with bills to pay. The fans would have spent the money in the gift shop at Graceland anyhow so it’s not a big deal.

Spotify made the right call in removing white supremacist bands from its service.

FACT: I ‘ve heard all the arguments about free speech and all that and normally I’d agree, but for Spotify, it’s a private company and I can see their point. It’s about making money with the least hassle and bad publicity possible. If these bands want their music featured on Spotify, conform to their terms of service or else find someone else to promote your music. As a private company, Spotify has every right to decide what they do and don’t want featured on their site and that’s the bottom line.

You’re interested in seeing Lady Gaga’s upcoming Netflix documentary.

FICTION: Gaga is okay, but she’s not really one of my favorites and unless it’s someone I’m really interested in, I don’t do many documentaries these days. Who has the time. I’m sure Gaga fans will love it, but I’m just not one of them.

And there you go with another FOF in the books. Thanks for reading. Comments and questions are welcome and appreciated. Let me know what you think. And with that, I’m down and gone. Until the next time, take care.
