Tossing Salt Presents:
EVOLVE 10th Anniversary
Thoughts & Predictions
July 12, 2019
Coming up on Saturday is EVOLVE and it’s 10th Anniversary event, which will be aired live on the WWE Network. This will be the first non-WWE event to stream live on the Network and has been promoted heavily on the Network and WWE social media over the past week. And since it involves NXT and 205 Live stars as well as Evolve talent and is a major happening for the world of pro wrestling, that means it’s time to once again break out the Sister Cleo outfit and crystal ball and do that prediction thing. So lets settle in and take a look at the announced matches and try to determine who wins, who loses and who takes that trip to the pay window. And away we go..
WWE NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. 205 Live star Akira Tozawa
This should be an amazing match. I’ve always enjoyed the work of Tozawa and thought his brief run with Titus Worldwide had the potential to really be something fun. And Cole, he’s a great talent too. I don’t think we’ll see a title switch here, but to be honest, I’d love to see it happen and shock the world. What I do think will happen is that Tozawa will give Cole the match of a lifetime and come just oh so close, but Cole will show why he’s the champ and make a comeback to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat and retain his title.
Winner and STILL NXT Champion: Adam Cole
EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory vs. WWN Champion JD Drake – Title vs. Title.
Unfortunately, these two men, I know very little about aside from what I’ve read on their Wiki pages. Both men have good looks and are at the top of their game and this should be an excellent match. As to who wins and who loses, I’ll just take a guess and say the winner will be Drake. He has the same name as Bobby Drake, the Iceman from the X-Men and what more reason do you need?
Winner and NEW EVOLVE Champion and still WWN Champion JD Drake
EVOLVE Tag Team Champions Eddie Kingston & Joe Gacy vs. AR Fox & Leon Ruff (with Ayla Fox and The Skulk)
Of all of these people, the only one I’m really familiar with is Eddie Kingston and he’s an amazing talent and definitely a future WWE Superstar somewhere down the road. I think the champions will retain.
Winners and STILL EVOLVE Tag Team Champions: Eddie Kingston & Joe Gacy
Matt Riddle vs. WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak (non-title.)
It’s a non-title match so that tells you all you need to know. Matt Riddle is the future of WWE and when he does come up to the main roster, people are going to really take to this kid and take notice. And if he makes a stop at the 205 Live brand along the way, so be it.
Winner: Matt Riddle
Anthony Henry vs. Arturo Ruas.
No clue about these guys or for that matter, the rest of the people taking part in matches so I’ll go old school and do a coin flip. Heads for Henry and tails for Ruas. And the quarter says tails.
Winner: Arturo Ruas
Babatunde vs. Colby Corino.
Another match where I am unfortunately too uninformed to make an educated pick between these two talented wrestlers so I’ll just go with the gut feelings and that is that the man who shares a name with a former NWA Champion and ECW talent will take home the win here.
Winner: Colby Corino
Curt Stallion vs. Sean Maluta vs. Stephen Wolf vs. Harlem Bravado.
Fatal 4-way rules and I expect that this will be the match to open the show and get things started. As for picking a winner, I once wrote a fan-fiction story about a group of mutant kids called “Rise of the Wolfpack”. And it was a good story, part of my “Avenging Shadows” universe over at FanFiction.net. Look it up at the site under the author name of TSFiction19. And inb honor of those stories, I’ll go with the wolf guy.
Winner: Stephen Wolf
Josh Briggs vs. Anthony Greene.
And finally, two more that my knowledge of is lacking, but based on their Wiki pages, are two really good talents. No reason to give, but my gut is saying that Anthony Greene will be the man to walk out of this match with his arms raised. So that’s what I’ll go with.
Winner: Anthony Greene
And there you go. Any thoughts, comments, questions or predictions of your own, please feel free to give me a shout and let me know. Thank you for reading. And with that, I’m out of here. Take care and I’ll see you at the matches.
