Thoughts & Predictions

As I’m writing this, I’m listening to CM Punk make his debut for AEW. I wasn’t sure how this would go down, but damn, I’ve got goosebumps. Welcome back to professional wrestling CM Punk. And now, let’s move on to other business and that’s tonight, live on pay-per-view and Peacock from Las Vagas and the Allegiant Stadium, it’s WWE SummerSlam. Are you ready for a few predictions? Let’s do this.
WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. John Cena.
So does Cena make history and become the first-ever officially recognized 17-time World Champion or does the Head of the Table end the dream and big return of the WWE Golden Boy? I can honestly see it going either way with WWE hot-shotting the title and putting it on Cena, only having him lose it back in a few weeks to Roman, or having Roman stand tall and keep the belt. Arguments can be made for both endings and it’s a tough call. I hate it, but I think we’ll see a changing of the guard here. Look for a new champion that you can’t see and his name is John Cena.
Winner and NEW WWE Universal Champion: John Cena
WWE Champion Bobby Lashley with MVP vs. Bill Goldberg.
While I’m having trouble picking a winner for the last match, there is no such doubt in my mind here. Goldberg may get in a spear or two, but the reign of Bobby Lashley as the WWE Champion continues, as it should, at least for a couple of more minutes.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Bobby Lashley
And after the match with Goldberg ends, doesn’t Big E still have that Money In The Bank contract? I know that technically, Baron Corbin “stole” the briefcase, but I’d expect to see a backstage skit, and Big E, Xavier Woods, and Kofi, aka The New Day, will get their briefcase back. And then, Lashley wins and Big E cashes in. The New Day takes care of MVP and we have a new WWE Champion.
New WWE Champion via Money In The Bank: Big E
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Nikki A.S.H. vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley.
Nikki is a failed experiment and sucks as the RAW Women’s Champion. Charlotte is a natural choice, but with her father and significant other as part of the NWA and AEW, is she the best selection, especially with her missing a WWE House Show to go to TripleMania last weekend? I think not. New champion and her name is Rhea Ripley.
Winner and NEW WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Rhea Ripley
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks.
I keep hearing this match may not happen and there might be some problems with Sasha, but if it does happen, the belt should stay right where it’s at in my opinion. And that means Bianca retains her gold.
Winner and STILL WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion: Bianca Belair
WWE United States Champion Sheamus vs. Damian Priest.
I like seeing Sheamus as the United States Champion, but let’s be serious here. Damian Priest is the real deal and new flavor of the month. He impressed me in NXT and I think he’s going to impress a lot of people here tonight. Sheamus will give one hell of a fight, but that title is switching hands.
Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: Damian Priest
Edge vs. Seth Rollins.
Edge needs a win here. He hasn’t won a match since his most recent return, has he? Seth is teflon and win or lose, it really doesn’t matter for him at this point. One good promo on Friday night and he’s fine. This should be one hell of a good match, but I don’t think any of us have any doubts as to who will take the win here.
Winner: Edge
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Rey & Dominik Mysterio.
An old midget and a rookie versus the best damn tag team of the modern era. This should be an easy decision to make, but it’s not because WWE loves Rey, and can you imagine the story if both Roman and The Usos lose their titles? The chaos and craziness just write themselves and will make some good TV. Let’s call it now. New champions.
Winners and NEW Smackdown Tag Team Champions: Rey & Dominik Mysterio
Jinder Mahal vs. Drew McIntyre.
I love Jinder and would like to see him get another big push towards some gold, but Drew is the modern-day Cena and golden child of the WWE right now. This match will be better than most people expect and may even be the dark horse match of the night, but the ending is certain.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
WWE Raw Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Omos vs. RK-Bro.
Riddle and his bro hit double RKO’s and new champions are crowned, this we all know.
Winners and NEW WWE Raw Tag Team Champions: Matt Riddle & Randy Orton, Team RK-Bro
Eva Marie vs. Alexa Bliss.
Where is Bray Wyatt when you need him? I think the tease of a Bray return begins here. No, I haven’t heard anything, but it’s just a gut feeling. And plus, I just don’t like Eva Marie.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
