Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Mortimer Plumtree, Earthquake Ferris, Booker T and Dixie, and More…
August 17, 2020
It’s Monday morning and what a way to start the day, with a thought-provoking edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I meant to do this yesterday, but instead had a case of the blahs and totally wasted the day instead. So today, it’s time to play catch-up. My thanks to Adam H. for the questions. Now, all together now. Let’s do this…
Have you ever heard of a wrestler named Mortimer Plumtree? Thoughts?
Mortimer Plumtree, real name David Webber, was a manager and not a wrestler, best known for being a part of the early days of TNA. He also worked under the name of Aloysius Hayes, the supposed nephew of Lord Alfred Hayes. I honestly don’t know much about the guy, but he had the nerd type of character gimmick going on and managed The Johnsons, two guys dressed like giant dicks, at the first NWA-TNA pay-per-view event. He worked off and on for TNA for a while and then moved on to work the Indys as a manager/wrestler before retiring in 2005 to focus on movies and acting.
What do you predict will happen with Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam?
They’ll have a great match and we’ll get a new champion. Maybe. I’ll have a full prediction column up on Thursday or Friday. Watch for it.
What are your thoughts on Booker T’s Dixie Carter accusations?
Booker alleged that Dixie Carter, during her time as the owner of TNA, was living out her MILF dreams and also, allegedly may have been sleeping around with some of the boys. And my thoughts? I don’t care. If she did, fine. She’s a good looking woman who seemed to like attention and more power to her. And if the rumors are true about her and Kevin Nash, yay for Big Sexy as well.
Who do you think will be the Four Horsemen members in AEW?
In AEW, it won’t be the “Four Horsemen” since that name is owned by the WWE. It might be a faction, co-managed by Arn and Tully, with members being FTR, Shawn Spears, and Matt Cardona after he turns on Cody and kicks his ass to capture the TNT Championship.
There are rumors that Ethan Page will be leaving Impact Wrestling and heading for AEW. Thoughts?
Page has pretty much done all he can in Impact and if he has the chance to go to AEW and a bigger audience and for more money, more power to him. It’s probably a good move.
Do you remember Earthquake Ferris? I think he was in the AWA.
I do remember Ferris, barely, from the days I was recapping AWA Wrestling for PWInsider. He was a big guy, not athletic, but with a strong amateur background, that worked in the AWA for a while, both as a wrestler and a referee. He got a semi-push for his size, standing 6’6 and weighing about 400lbs, but with that baby-face look, didn’t seem to have much in-ring ability or appeal to the AWA fans. I remember him but had to look him up for information to answer this question. After the AWA, he worked a few matches in WCW as a jobber, but the information seems to end after that. Here is a match from June 28, 1986, with Ferris taking on Ali Khan. The match starts at the 2:26 point. Enjoy…
Ric Flair (in his prime) versus Seth Rollins. Who wins?
I don’t like Seth’s character, but the man can go in that ring. Flair was the consummate professional wrestler, able to talk and perform and this match, pitting two of the very best against each other, would be an instant classic. I think Seth would have the edge and would steal a win at the end of a forty-five-minute classic.
In their primes, Larry Zbyszko versus CM Punk. Who wins?
The Living Legend versus The Best In The World. The promos and build for this match would be epic indeed. The match, not so much. I love me some Zbyszko and Larry is one of my all-time favorites, but I think Punk has the better skill-set and in the end, Larry would be going to sleep, giving Punk the win.
I’ve been enjoying Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions series. The guests he’s gotten so far (especially, for me, Taker and Mark Henry) have been great. Who would you like to see guest on the show? Do you think they could ever get The Rock to appear one day?
For myself, the guests I’d like to see are Arn Anderson, David Arquette, Bob Backlund, Lisa “Ivory” Moretti, Stevie Richards, and Mike Tyson. As for The Rock appearing, he does have a new football promotion that he’ll be wanting to promote soon and Austin does have a wide audience so it’s definitely in the realm of possibility.
