Thoughts & Predictions

Coming up on Saturday night, live on PPV from the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN, is AEW Full Gear. That means it’s prediction time. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
AEW Champion Kenny Omega vs. Hangman Page.
This has been almost two years in the making and general speculation is that Page will overcome the shenanigans and finally become the AEW World Champion. That’s what everyone thinks will happen, but I don’t agree. I think we’ll get a swerve here and through a technicality, or more likely an Elite member getting involved, Omega will find a way to snatch a tainted victory from the jaws of defeat. But alas, all hope will not be lost as then, on AEW Dynamite next Wednesday, we can see Tony Khan get involved and make an executive decision where it’s a rematch and no one can get involved or they’ll be fired. Omega is on his own. Then, we’ll see Page finally win the coveted title to the delight of fans everywhere. But so far as at Full Gear, it’s one last hurrah for the Champion.
Winner and STILL AEW World Champion: Kenny Omega
AEW Women’s Champion Dr. Britt Baker vs. Tay Conti.
Tay has really come a long way in a short time and she’s a very talented lady. I also love seeing her as part of Sammy Guevera’s VLOG, but that’s not important here. What is important is how she’ll do against the resident top lady and dentist of AEW, Dr. Britt Baker. Tay is good, but Britt is beyond good and is on a whole different level than most of the women at AEW. I would love to see Britt against Charlotte Flair, Tessa Blanchard, or Asuka at some point. Maybe one day, but for now, it’s against Tay Conti. It’ll be a damn good match, but the outcome is pretty easy to predict.
Winner and STILL AEW Women’s Champion: Dr. Britt Baker
Bryan Danielson vs. Miro in the AEW Championship Eliminator Tournament Final.
Did these two ever have a series against each other in the WWE? I can’t remember, but it doesn’t matter much for the here and now. Danielson has been on a major roll since coming to AEW and has really regained the fire he had many years ago, pre-WWE. And while it took a while to find his place, Miro has really stepped up his game and is so damn good right now, it’s almost scary. This one could go either way and it would not be an upset. It’ll be an epic match and both men will come out looking great, but when that final bell tolls, it will not be Miro Day. It’s all about the American Dragon.
Winner: Bryan Danielson
AEW Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers vs. AAA Tag Team Champions FTR w/ Tully Blanchard
It’s time for FTR to have a major revival of their status as one of the greatest tag teams currently in professional wrestling and while the Lucha Brothers are damn good, they don’t have Tully Blanchard in their corner. FTR does and I think this will be the factor that makes the deciding difference.
Winners and NEW AEW Tag Team Champions: FTR w/ Tully Blanchard
Minneapolis Street Fight: The Inner Circle vs. American Top Team.
Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky, Junior Dos Santos, Andrei Arlovski & Dan Lambert taking on Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevera, Santana & Ortiz in what will be confusing, chaotic, and full of plunder, interference, shenanigans, and probably even a Duran Duran album at some point. Okay, maybe not, but it’ll be controlled chaos and high spot followed by in the crowd spots and a table spot to boot. And since American Top Team and their big bossman, Dan Lambert got the big spot over Jericho this past episode of AEW Dynamite, it’s time to get some payback and put those guys on the list. They will never, ever be the same again. The Inner Circle wins and Manbert gets humiliated in some fashion.
Winners: The Inner Circle
Darby Allin vs. MFJ.
Darby has Sting in his corner, but MJF has Wardlow and that should make all the difference. MJF is so damn good as a heel and I could easily see him going over here, but I think it’s time for one of those patented swerves and for MJF to eat a loss, most likely due to miscommunication between MJF and his massive bodyguard. Thus Darby wins and gets a well-deserved push. MJF eats a loss that won’t hurt him at all since he can just blame Wardlow and help tease the eventual breakup that we all know is coming.
Winner: Darby Allin
CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston.
After that promo/fight last week on Rampage, this is probably the most anticipated match on the card. It’ll be competitive, stiff, brutal, and damn entertaining. And while the end results are predictable, I think both men will walk out of this looking better than ever and it will set things up for maybe some more encounters before both men move on to other encounters. How about an AEW Tag Team Championship run for Punk and Kingston as a team challenging FTR. That would be amazing to see. Are you listening Tony Khan? Look for Punk to win with the most devastating move in wrestling history, a surprise roll-up. So I have said and so it will be.
Winner: CM Punk
Falls Count Anywhere: The Young Bucks & Adam Cole vs. Jurassic Express & Christian Cage.
Having this six-man tag team match, falls count anywhere match on the same card as a ten-man tag match with the Inner Circle versus American Top Team seems kind of redundant and I expect we’ll see a lot of the same spots and craziness in both matches. As much as I love Christian, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and their mighty midget mascot Marko Stunt, this one has to go to the men with all the stroke in AEW. It’ll be a solid and fun match, but the Elite will walk out with the win at the end of the night.
Winners: The Young Bucks & Adam Cole
Cody Rhodes & PAC vs. Malakai Black & Andrade de Idolo.
Cody Rhodes and Pac? I sense a combustible balance that can easily be twisted and upset over the slightest detail. Malakai and Andrade is an odd pairing as well, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend and I guess there are some common interests there. I don’t think Pac will turn on Cody yet, not in this match, but there will be some miscommunication in the teamwork and I expect that Arn Anderson will be very frustrated at ringside watching this match. And when all is said and done, it’s Cody who eats the pin and loses the match for his team.
Winners: Malakai Black & Andrade de Idolo
Buy In Match: Nyla Rose & Jamie Hayter vs. Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa.
Four very talented ladies who’ll do an excellent job of getting the audience going and setting the pace for the rest of the show. Fast action and a good back and forth is expected and I doubt these women will disappoint. As for who takes the big “W” here, my gut says Nyla and Jamie. The gut is never wrong, not usually anyhow. So that’s who we’re going with.
Winners: Nyla Rose & Jamie Hayter
And there you go. It’s definitely a packed show for AEW and is full of excellent matches that should make for a great night of wrestling action. So what are your predictions? Who is going to walk out of Full Gear with their arms raised as they take that trip to the pay window? Inquiring minds want to know. Use the comments to let me know. And now, I’m out of here my friends. Take care and stay safe and don’t forget, AEW Full Gear Saturday night on PPV. Have a good one and I’ll see you at the matches.
