WWE Clash of Champions – Thoughts and Predictions

WWE’s Raw brand will present their first Clash of Champions PPV this Sunday 9/25 from Indianapolis, Indiana. It’s prediction time. Let’s do this…

WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins.

Seth was the face of RAW, and the WWE for a long time and had his chance. And now, it’s the Kevin Owens Show. This should be one helluva match. Definitely one for the ages. Will Triple H show up again? Who knows? Will Stephanie reveal her favorite? Who knows? Did the movie “Pete’s Dragon” make me cry? Who knows? Kevin is one of the best all-around performers on the WWE roster right now and I think that this thing with Seth Rollins is too big and too good to be rushed. There will be plenty of false-finishes, plenty of two-counts and lots of drama, excitement and craziness all around. We may even get a cameo appearance by Jericho, helping out his “best friend” with the gift of “It!”. And at the end of the night, Kevin Owens retains that title and his time as the longest reigning WWE Universal Champion continues.

Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens

WWE Raw Women’s champion Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley.

This could really just go in any direction. I don’t think that Sasha will get the title back just yet and that narrows it down between Bayley and Charlotte. Bayley being hot-shotted the title makes sense, but this is the WWE so when does making sense matter? I think we’ll see Charlotte using those “dirtiest player in the game” genetics and showing that she’s a Flair in every sense of the word, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat as she overcomes the odd and retains the title.

Winner and STILL WWE Raw Womens Champion: Charlotte

WWE United States champion Rusev vs. Roman Reigns.

At least this match makes sense. Roman was an ass-clown and decided to disrupt Rusev and Lana’s celebration and Rusev is PO’ed about it. It’s for the Uniteed States Championship, but I don’t think that Rusev needs to lose the title. Roman doesn’t need the belt and in this particular match, the title is and should be secondary. Look for a brawl and total craziness. In the end, Roman gets the win, most likely by DQ or count-out. Rusev retains the title. And this whole feud continues…

Winner by DQ: Roman Reigns (Rusev retains the title)

WWE Raw Tag Team champions The New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

I like the New Day, but it’s time to switch things up a bit and give Gallows and Anderson a change to take the ball and run with it. As Jason Sensation, pretending to be Owen Hart, once said, “Enough is enough and it’s time for a change!” It’s time for “The Club” to win that gold!

Winners and NEW RAW Tag Team Champions: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

WWE Cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick.

TJ Perkins first defense of his new WWE Cruiserweight Championship and first time performing on the WWE main roster. I don’t think he’ll lose the title this quickly, but the big interest here for me anyhow is “The Brian Kendrick”. He’s come a long way since his “Spanky” days and I’m anxious to see what he can and will this time around here in the WWE. I’m looking for Kendrick to get “justthisclose” to winning, probably through shenanigans, only to have it backfire and allow Perkins to retain and keep that title gold. It should be a good match and fun for fans of all ages. Look for Perkins to retain.

Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: TJ Perkins

Match Seven in Best of Seven Series: Cesaro vs. Sheamus.

I love to watch Cesaro perform and I can appreciate the toughness and character of Sheamus although he’s somewhat stale in my eyes, but this entire series has been less than exciting for me. I remember the original Nikita Koloff / Magnum TA “Best of Seven” series and it was awesome. I remember watching Chris Benoit and Booker T do a “Best of Seven” on WCW Nitro and it was damn good. And then there’s this? What’s the point? Why are they fighting? I know that the WWE threw out there that it’s to prove their toughness to Mick Foley and for a “future title shot” or whatever, but it just seems like a pointless time filler more than anything else to me and lazy booking by the WWE Creative folks. We know Cesaro is damn good. We know Sheamus is tough as nails. So… ?? Anyhow, we’ve had six matches. Sheamus won the first three and Cesaro came back to win the next three. And this is the final and the winner will be… Shemaus. Why? Do we really need a reason? It gives Cesaro a reason to be traded to Smackdown and puts Sheamus back in the title scene and because it’s not what the fans expect. Yes, I’m calling it here. Sheamus wins.

Winner of the Best of Seven Series: Sheamus

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho.

Jericho is truly having a strong run this time around with the WWE and he’s better and more entertaining than ever. The matches are solid, but the promos and presence are the strongest parts of his game. Zayn is an amazing wrestler and is becoming an in-ring favorite of mine as well. The gift of Jericho is truly a wonder to behold and I have no doubt that on Sunday night, he will give Zayn plenty of “It!”. Zayn will take home the victory though and take that glorified trip to the pay window.

Winner: Sami Zayn

Nia Jax vs. Alicia Fox (Kickoff Show)

Honestly, I don’t really see what’s go great about Nia Jax. She’s big and a monster. I get that, but the appeal, for me anyhow, just isn’t there. And no she’s up against the former wedding planner, turned psycho, turned psuedo-Bella, turned crazy again, Alicia Fox. Alicia is the female version of Zack Ryder or Curtis Axel. She appears to be doing something and then they forget about her and then bring her back and nobody cares anymore. It’ll be a good womens match and probably be better than the squashes we’ve been seeing on RAW, but the outcome is in little doubt.

Winner: Nia Jax

And there you go. My predictions for the Clash of the Champions. I’m Doug and I’m down and I’m gone. That’s all folks. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you at the matches.
