Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
September 9, 2017
Are you ready to sing a song and make all of the dogs howl? Nope, me neither. If I wanted to do that, I’d put on a Justin Beiber CD. Did you see the new pics of Justin that were leaked and stolen from Selena Gomez’s phone? I don’t like Justin at all, but he does have one good quality. When people call him a dick, you have to ask if the description is literal or not. Yes, I went there. So long as he promises never to sing or talk, and gives me lots of money, he could be my boy toy anytime. Nah, he’s too annoying and I’d still want to kill him. Never mind. Let’s move on to music and a few people who actually have talent. Taylor Swift, Madonna & Little Wayne? Oh vey! I guess I picked a bad week to give up dropping acid. (Obscure movie reference) This is the “Fact or Fiction” thing that I do weekly about music. The questions come from my friends at 411mania.com/music. And the additional comments are from me. Let’s do this.
Taylor Swift’s second single “Ready For It” is better than “Look What You Made Me Do.”
FICTION: It’s a good song and I like it well enough, but is it better than the other? It’s not really any worse or any better. I’m not really a big Taylor Swift fan anyhow so I’m not the best person to ask, but they’re roughly about the same in likability to me.
You’re interested in new music from Madonna.
FICTION: Madonna is Madonna and I’m sure that there are many hardcore Madonna fans who will be jumping for joy and all excited about new music and a new CD from their beloved former “Material Girl”, but I’m not one of them. The last time I remember listening to anything with Madonna featured was the live performance by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert of “Same Love” at the 2014 Grammys and Madonna came on at the end and looked like the Crypt Keeper from “Tales of the Crypt” after a several month drinking binge. Mary Lambert blew her away vocally and I haven’t really heard anything about Madonna since. I prefer to keep it that way. She has new music? It may be good or it may be a bigger bomb than what she had in mind when she talked about her hatred of Donald Trump and blowing up the White House. I could really care less.
DMX made the smart decision in going to rehab.
FACT: If it helps him get past his problems and issues, then it’s a good idea. Pretty simple.
The Michael Jackson Scream compilation will be worth the purchase.
FICTION: While I’ve always been a big fan of Michael Jackson and love his music, it’s just another compilation album of his biggest hits and a few other tracks for good measure. I already own most of his albums and CD”s so for someone like me, there really wouldn’t be anything new to make it worth the purchase. For new fans or for those who might have missed part of the Jackson era, it could be a good thing, but I’m not buying it.
U2’s new song “You’re The Best Thing About Me” is a middling track at best.
FACT: I went and listened and it was okay at best. It seems like everything that you might expect from a U2 song to make it special and distinct was excluded though. It’s totally forgettable and just another track of 2017, aka generic as hell. U2 can and is expected to do better. This song isn’t it.
If Lil Wayne is using “sizzurp”, he needs to stop to protect his health.
FACT: I actually had to go look up what “sizzurp” aka “Lean” is. This is from an article in USA Today. What is it? Sizzurp – also known as purple drank, syrup and lean – is a mix of codeine-based prescription cough syrup, soda and, often, Jolly Ranchers candy. What does it do? The codeine, which is an opiate, produces a feeling of euphoria. The cough syrup also contains a drug called promethazine, which acts as a sedative. The combo can make users lean over – thus the nickname “lean.”
So that makes this an easy answer. Lil’ Wayne already has seizures and health issues. And he’s taking a drug that screws with the body, causes euphoria and then works as a sedative afterwards. That can’t be helping and is probably one of the reasons for the seizures. If he keeps doing stuff like this “sizzurp”, then he’s a stupid idiot. And to paraphrase Chris Jericho, do you know what happens to stupid idiots who keep doing drugs like this and f*cking up their bodies. They die… or else have medical issues and end up as drooling vegetables. That might improve the music he’s been releasing over the past few years, but it’s not what anyone should want to happen. Wayne should know better and needs to straighten his ignorant ass up. ‘Nuff said.
And that’s all for now. Comments, thoughts and all feedback is welcome. Until the next time, my friends, take it light. I’ll be back.
