Wrestling Q&A – December 17, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Q&A
December 17, 2017

Greetings, salutations and hello there, how you doing? It’s an exciting Saturday night here at the Maynard household. I’m watching the “Greg Gutfield Show” on Fox News and procrastinating on making some “Phillie Cheesecake Style Meatloaf”. I have the ingredients ready, but just don’t feel like doing it right now. Tyrus, aka “Brodus Clay” from the WWE is a funny guy. He’s the best part of the Gutfield show. I wish WWE would find a reason and way to bring him back. Let him stay with Fox and this show, but do WWE stuff too. Are you listening Vince?

Oh yeah, tomorrow night is the WWE Clash of Champions. Watch it on the Network. Go read my predictions at the site. I said title changes and lots of them. And I’m calling it now. Owens and Sami will NOT be fired. Now let’s answer some other questions. They’re from my Facebook page. And the answers are from me. Let’s get busy and do this…

Goldberg is rumored to be the headliner for the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame. Thoughts?

Goldberg is fine with me. We all knew it was a matter of time after Goldberg did that short run with the company earlier this year that he’d be back and now, it looks as if he is. I’m also happy with some of the other rumoured names, like Ivory and the Dudley Boys. Long overdue for all three of them. Kid Rock was mentioned and that’s all well and good, but they should do Cyndi Lauper first before doing any more celebrities. And Regis too. But Goldberg as the main guy next year. I’m cool with that.

Apparently there are rumors of an XFL return. I have doubts that this would happen. However, I’d watch. Thoughts?

If it happens, so be it. I’ll watch and give it a chance. Can’t be any worse than the stuff as of late in the NFL and I seriously doubt that we’ll see anyone on the sidelines kneeling. That’s for damn sure.

Which match are you most looking forward to seeing on Clash of Champions?

For me, it will be the Owens / Sami versus Orton / Shinsuke match and the match with Mojo versus Ryder. All of the matches are solid though. This is a packed show and should be excellent.

Is Tully Blanchard among the most underrated pro-wrestlers ever?

I think so. Tully was an amazing technical wrestler and one of the greatest heels in the history of the sport. Think of “Miz” and the heat he gets from the fans. Now multiply that by 100% and you have Tully. I think a reason he’s often forgotten though is that his career pretty much ended when he and Arn left the WWF. Arn came back to WCW and the Horsemen and just built on his resume and established himself as “The Enforcer”. Tully didn’t get to come back to WCW due to a failed drug test in the WWF and thus, missed the whole Monday Night Wars and the peak years of WCW versus WWF. His legacy suffered big time as a result and now, he rarely gets the adulation or credit he deserves.

What WWE women’s match would you put in the lead to headline a PPV in the next 12 months. Sasha and Charlotte broke that glass ceiling and I’d like to see who they’d choose to follow up.

The next time that we have the women headline a PPV event, I’m pretty sure that Asuka will be one of the participants. And Charlotte would be the best option currently on the roster for her opponent. I’d go for Auska versus Charlotte or maybe Asuka versus Paige if it’s a strictly RAW event.

Kenny Omega – I feel eventually he will do all he can in Japan and get signed in WWE. Would you have him start in NXT or main roster?

As good as Omega is, I’d still have him do some NXT time first before coming up to the main roster. The reason is that WWE has their own style and way of doing things, from wrestling to promos to TV production and Omega would need a chance to get used to the WWE’s methods and way of working. NXT would allow him to do just that.

Given that managers aren’t as popular in WWE like they used to be, in the last 5 years, who do you think, if given the proper manager, could have been a superstar(no pun intended) but instead wasn’t because of either lack of charisma or mic skills?

The first names that popped into my head were Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, aka the “Bludgeon Brothers”. Can you imagine this team with someone like the legendary Captain Lou Albano leading them. Multiple tag team titles and strong booking as the monsters they should be. I think MIz, as great as he is as a talker and wrestler, would work well with someone like a J.J. Dillon or Gary Hart in his corner. Rhyno would benefit from someone who could talk for him and let him just be a monster. It’s not just the idea of having a manager, but having the right manager with the right style for each wrestler. I wish that the WWE had kept James Ellsworth under contract and allowed him to become a modern day Grand Wizard or Jimmy Hart. I still have dreams of Arn Anderson coming back out as a manager or maybe even using Tully to make a new, modern day incarnation of the Horsemen. Managers offer so much to the spectacle that is pro wrestling. They served an big important role in their days and could again. I’d love to see it.

And there you go. I’m out of here for now. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and questions welcome. Let me know what’s going on in your head. Until the next time, stay safe and Happy Holidays! Love you – mean it.
