Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
Hogan, Nakamura, Carmella & More
July 22, 2018
Crash! Bam! Smash! Is this about professional wrestling or is it the Whoopi Goldberg mating call from the basement dressing rooms of The View as she screams in a deranged manner that she’s not deranged. Yeah Whoopi, we get it. Welcome to the Fact or Fiction wrestling edition. I’m Doug and you’re not. Oops, wrong joke. The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling. I want to hit someone with a low blow and win the United States Championship. I guess that only works when things are extreme. Let’s do the Fact or Fiction thing and get ‘er done. And away we go…
1. You are excited that Hulk Hogan is back with WWE.
FICTION: I’m glad that Hulk is back with the company because that’s where he belongs and should be and in my opinion, the whole reason he was on exile was kind of dumb anyhow. Political correctness and people who regularly say far worse things got upset and while I understand why WWE had to let him go, it was and is messed up. I’ll never be a big Hogan fan, but he is a very large part of why the WWE is where they are today and there should always be a place for him in the company, regardless of what he may have said or done.
2. Shinsuke Nakamura winning the US Title at Extreme Rules was the right call.
FACT: Jeff Hardy didn’t need the title and his reign as the Champion was less than exciting. Nakamura was strongly sliding down that ladder and while his character has gotten better, he needed a little kick to make himself viable after his failures against AJ Styles. The U.S. title was and is a great way to do just that.
3. Carmella is the best main roster heel in WWE.
FICTION: Carmella is a great heel and seems to get better each and every week, but the best on the roster? I think that both Alexa and The Miz might have something to say about that.
4. Bobby Lashley should be the man to face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam.
FICTION: Lashley, if it was the TNA / Impact version of the man that might be facing Brock, could be fun and interesting to see, but the WWE version has, so far anyhow, just bored the hell out of me. I’m not crazy about Roman facing Brock again either, but let’s go ahead and get this over with so Roman can beat Brock, win the belt and make the “fans” scream in anger and frustration. Then Roman can defend against Lashley, Joe, Seth and everyone else and we can move on to a post-Brock era for WWE.
5. WWE Extreme Rules 2018 was an overall disappointing show.
FACT: I’m not saying that any of the matches were bad because it was a solid and packed show worthy of being one of the big four, but the problem with Extreme Rules is the problem that WWE has with almost all of their events these days. With the Kickoff show, there were twelve matches stretched out over five hours. That’s too long and too many matches and it’s hard to watch entirely. The matches are rushed and kind of blur together rather than standing out as classics or special. Sometimes, less is more and if these PPV’s only had 5 or 6 matches each, they would be special and more entertaining and memorable. So yeah, I was disappointed, but it wasn’t the matches or the wrestlers or the wrestling, but just too long and too crowded to make it special. WWE really needs to either go back to the split PPV’s shows for each brand or find another way to get everything and everyone in because five hours and 10 – 12 matches is just too damn much.
6. You are excited that Kaitlyn is back to work the Mae Young Classic.
FICTION: Nothing against Kaitlyn, but she never really connected to me when she in her earlier WWE run and she still doesn’t. I’m glad she’s back with WWE and in the business again, but to me, it’s not a big deal. If it was Molly Holly, Jazz, or even Eve Torres, I’d be more excited and happy. And if it was Victoria with one last run, I’d be estatic. But Kaitlyn? Just not really all that big a deal to me.
And there you go. Thank you for reading. Thoughts, questions and comments are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, stay safe and always support your local Indy wrestling. Have a great one and don’t forget to watch Impact Wrestling Slammiversary tonight on PPV. Take care.
