Tossing Salt Presents:
Movies / TV Fact or Fiction
Predator, White Boy Rick, Halloween & More
September 13, 2018
Are you ready for that Fact or Fiction thing, the movies and TV edition? I said, ARE YOU READY? Well, I am so let’s just do it, shall we? The statements come from my friends over at 411mania.com/movies. And I’m supplying the opinion that follows. And away we go…
The Predator will likely help bring the franchise back to form.
FACT: The trailers so far look promising and Predator has always been a fun movie franchise to watch and enjoy. The director, Shane Black, has a great reputation and few people can mix drama, action and comedy better. I’m actually looking forward to this one.
Captain Britain and The Black Knight are too obscure of heroes to work in their own Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
FICTION: While they’re probably not the first characters I would expect when making a movie, both have a long history in Marvel comics, with Captain Britain having a background full of magic, mystery and mutants, serving a long term as a member of Excalibur while Dane Whitman, aka The Black Knight has been a part of the Avengers many times and is an acclaimed scientist with a magic sword. If you’re not a comic person, you might not be too familiar with them, but with the success of Ant Man and Guardians of the Galaxy as examples, the MCU folks have proven that lack of recognition isn’t necessarily a problem. There are so many directions you can go with both of these characters as well as their supporting casts (Captain Britain’s sister is the X-Man, Psylocke while the Black Knight is a known associate of Dr. Strange). I think this is a good move by Disney and Marvel and I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
BBC America should have kept Doctor Who on Saturdays to avoid Sunday competition like Walking Dead, Supergirl and the NFL.
FICTION: With the availability of In Demand and other watching services, it doesn’t really matter much anymore what day a pre-recorded show is on. If it’s good and the fans want to watch it, they will find a way. I’m sure that BBC America has a reason for the schedule change and it’s their show so it’s their call. Whatever…
White Boy Rick will get end up lost in the box office shuffle.
FACT: It looks interesting and might be fun to watch, but it doesn’t have a “must see” vibe going on about it. I’ll probably catch it later on Netflix or RedBox at some point and I have a feeling most others will do the same.
The positive early buzz on Halloween has you looking forward to seeing it.
FACT: I remember my brother showing me the early trailers for this and we both agreed that it looks great and is something that we want to both see. I’m looking forward to watching this movie and seeing a good movie with the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis starring. It’s going to be good.
You’re interested in American Horror Story: Apocalypse after seeing its first full trailer.
FACT: Confession time here. I have never watched American Horror Story, save perhaps one or two episodes caught by accident. But I’ve heard many good things about the show from my boss-man and it sounds like something, if I had any free time, I would enjoy watching. Mixing this series with tales of an apocalypse sounds like it could be very interesting. I probably will never actually watch this, but if the opportunity does present itself, I may give it a shot.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Questions, comments and any thoughts are welcome and appreciated. And now, I’m out of here. It’s time to go see what this “curfew” mess is all about. Thank you Florence. Until the next time, take care and be safe. Love you – mean it.
