Tossing Salt Presents:
AEW, Ranger Ross, EC3, Joey Ryan & More
January 10, 2019
Happy Birthday to my Heterosexual Life Mate, the Jay to my Silent Bob, the baddest man on the planet and my #1 bro-son, Kenneth McDonald. I loves ya, bro!
And now, let’s do some Q&A, wrestling style. More questions from Matt and Jesse. Let’s do this…
Is AEW now the #2 promotion in the United States?
Right now, I would give that distinction to Ring of Honor with Major League Wrestling, the NWA and Impact coming in after that. But that being said, All Elite Wrestling is poised to jump to the top spot directly behind WWE very soon depending up on how their upcoming Vegas show and the new few months play out. They have major names signed and big money backing them so they’re making the right moves and things are in play. The momentum coming from the All In event is still going strong and the press conference this past Tuesday just kept the magic flowing. I don’t think Vince and the WWE have anything to be worried about, but no doubt they are watching and paying close attention. AEW looks like they came to make a major impact in the world of professional wrestling and won’t rest until they’re breathing down WWE’s necks. They’re not going to beat WWE, but they can make them step up their game a bit and I think that will be happening sooner rather than later.
Thoughts on Ranger Ross in WCW?
I barely remember him. He was supposed to be a former Special Forces soldier and he had a mid-card run in the early 90’s before leaving the company. I think he was part of a racial lawsuit against WCW, but I’m not sure on that. And a few years ago, he was arrested for human trafficking and pretty much being a pimp with several women under his control. As a wrestler, he was nothing special and as a person, if the stories are true, he’s even less and a piece of crap. And there you go.
Do you think any WWE stars will end up defecting to AEW and if so, who?
I think that having AEW in the picture will cause WWE to try and keep talents that otherwise they would let go and release, just to keep them from going to AEW. But if they become free agents and leave the WWE, I could see Gallows & Anderson going to AEW to work. I could also see Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles making that jump if they get tired of the WWE wind and grind and want to move on. Randy Orton is WWE for life I believe, but if he was to take a break from WWE, he and Cody are good friends and he was make a great addition to the new promotion as well.
American Starship versus The Midnight Rockers. Who wins?
For those of you who don’t know, American Starship was the name of a rookie tag team in the Carolina’s in the early 80’s of American Starship Coyote (Scott Hall) and American Starship Eagle (Dan Spivey). And the Midnight Rockers were of course Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty. So this match is Hall and Spivey versus Shawn and Marty. The Starship didn’t last together too long as Hall went to Florida and the AWA before becoming the Diamond Studd in WCW and then Razor Ramon in the WWF. Spivey worked Florida and the WWE as a tag team wrestler, was in WCW as part of The Skyscrapers and then became known as Waylon Mercy. And Marty and Shawn. Top tag team in the AWA and then the WWF before breaking up and Shawn becoming the Heartbreak Kid and a multiple time Champion and Hall of Famer while Marty… well, you know. This could be a fun match once everyone seasoned a bit and become big names. Spivey would be the weak link here as he’s a great guy and awesome personality, but his in-ring skills? The Rockers win. No doubt about it. The Midnight Rockers win.
Is EC3 the next big thing in WWE?
He has the right look, the promo ability and is the perfect example of what WWE looks for in a top star. I think with EC3, the sky is the limit. He knows the WWE way of doing thing, having been in NXT and WWE developmental before being released and then moving to TNA where he evolved into the Ethan Carter III, aka EC3 character. He busted his ass and paid his dues and now, he’s back in WWE. I think he’s as good as anyone on the roster and when he starts wrestling Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Dolph and the rest of the main WWE stars, the fans are going to notice and get behind this guy. He’s the real deal and is going to be huge.
Is Zack Ryder damaged goods in WWE?
I don’t think so. If Zack was to do a personality change, start being serious and start winning, by any means necessary, it wouldn’t be hard to change and morph his character into one that the fans could get behind. He’s popular with the fans, but they don’t believe he can win the big ones and be a top guy. So if he starts winning the big matches and acting as a top guy should, it wouldn’t take long for minds to start changing and for Zack’s marketability to grow. With the right booking and creative direction, Zack could be a major name for the WWE. They just need to get behind him and make it work. If WWE did, it would.
If you could create a 2018 version of Evolution, who would you pick for this group?
A four man super-group that has all the tools to dominate and control the WWE? I’d go for Randy Orton in the Triple H role of the group. I’d have Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre in the Batista and Orton roles. And in the Flair spot, as the elder spokesman of the group, I’d put Rhyno. Why not? And there you go.
Thoughts on Joey Ryan?
Great charisma and talented wrestler and performer. His over-the-top antics and dick-flipping moves don’t do much for me, but the man is definitely a top guy who has found his spot in the world of professional wrestling. Will he ever be a top guy in WWE? Not so long as they’re PG or TV-14 or whatever, but it doesn’t matter. Joey has found a place and way to make himself into a top guy all over the world and make a ton of money at the same time. He’s a definite one-eyed-jack in the deck of cards that is professional wrestling and sports entertainment, but whatever works, right? More power to him.
And there you go. Thoughts, questions and comments welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and I’ll catch you on the flip side. Stay safe.
