NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool – Thoughts & Predictions…

Tossing Salt Presents:
NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool
Thoughts & Predictions
Janaury 11, 2019

Coming up on Saturday, January 12, 2019, live on the WWE Network and coming from the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, England, is the NXT UK’s first ever Takeover event. It’s NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool. And even though I’m not as familiar with the UK talents as I should be, I still feel the need to offer a few thoughts and predictions for the event. After all, that’s what I do. And so let’s get busy. It’s the NXT UK brand and it’s Takeover, live from the home of NXT General Manager William Regal. And away we go…

WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne vs. Joe Coffey.

Pete Dunne, in the few times I have watched him wrestle, is a very talented young man. Assuming he can stay healthy, the man has the potential to be a future big time star and legend. Joe Coffey, in the few matches I’ve watched of his, is pretty damn good too. He’s got a good look and lots of charisma and will also one day, in my opinion, be a top guy for the WWE and I’m not just talking UK either. I don’t think we’re going to see a title switch here. Dunne is a good name to build and work around and while a switch would make an impact and draw some eyes to the product, I think for now, that NXT UK Championship is safe right where it’s at.

Winner and STILL WWE UK Champion: Pete Dunne

NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm.

If we get a title switch, this is the match where it should happen. Rhea Ripley is a wonder to watch in that ring and she would be right at home with Charlotte, Asuka, Becky and the main roster women, no doubt. Toni Storm impressed me in the Mae Young Invitational and she’s someone to keep an eye open for. A storm is rising and isn’t taking any prisoners. I think we’ll see a great match that tries to steal the show here with these two women. I also think the gold will change hands and Toni will be the one to take that trip to the pay window, if you will.

Winner and NEW Women’s Champion: Toni Storm

Mustache Mountain vs. Grizzled Young Veterans to crown the first-ever NXT UK Tag Team Champions.

This one can go either way. I think I’ll go with Mustache Mountain, just because I’m more familiar with them and I love that name.

Winners and NEW NXT UK Tag Team Champions: Mustache Mountain

Eddie Dennis vs. Dave Mastiff in a No DQ match

I’m not really familiar with either of these men so I had to look both of them up on Wikipedia. I have seen Dave Mastiff’s name before and after reading his page, I remembered where from. Some YouTube videos. An impressive talent. Eddie Dennis doesn’t really stand out for me except for that he has two first names. Both guys are tough and good and I honestly have no idea what the story is behind this match or what their status is for the event. So I’ll just flip a coin. Heads has it and that means Eddie Dennis takes home the win.

Winner: Eddie Dennis

Jordon Devlin versus Travis Banks

Two more names that I’m not too familiar with, but looking at their profiles on Wiki and reading about them, I feel I should keep an eye on these two young talents. They are not big names, but they are young and hungry and looking to earn their spot and climb that ladder to the top. This match is probably here to act as filler for the local crowd, but that’s still cool. They’re getting an opportunity and you know that HHH, William Regal and the McMahon family will all be watching very closely. Not sure who will win so I’ll just take a guess. I like the name Travis and most guys named Travis are cute hotties so that’s who I’m pulling for. Why the heck not?

Winner: Travis Banks

And there you go. Am I right? Am I wrong? Tune in to WWE NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool tomorrow on the WWE Network and find out. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, please feel free to give me a holler. Until the next time, take care and stay safe. Have a great one.
