Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
Shayna Baszler, Daniel Bryan, Elimination Chamber & More
March 16, 2020
I thought I had already written this, but guess what? I haven’t. Oh well, my bad. I have twenty minutes to kill before I have to go to work. Is that enough time? Let’s find out. It’s Wrestling Fact or Fiction. The statements come from the mind of Mr. Jake Chambers and http://www.411mania.com. The opinions that follow, that’s me. Let’s do this…
Statement #1: Shayna Baszler was the right call to face Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania.
FACT: If Ronda Rousey was available, that might have been the better choice from a continuity point of view as there is an issue left to be resolved between Ronda and Becky, but since she’s not here and Baszler is, it’s the next best call. Baszler has the credibility and character that plays very well against “The Man” and looking at the entire Women’s Roster for all three brands, this match makes the most sense.
Statement #2: Daniel Bryan still has “it”.
FICTION: Daniel is still an amazing talent and we get the occasional glimpse of what he once was when the man performs, but day in and day out, he’s not what he was and has lost a lot of what made him stand out as extra-special. A lot of that is due to WWE’s booking and the people he’s been up against and some of it is due to time and the toll that wrestling takes on the body. Daniel is still an excellent wrestler and can out-perform 98% of the WWE roster, but he is what he is because he ain’t what he used to be.
Statement #3: The Elimination Chamber is a dumb gimmick.
FACT: I won’t say dumb, but it’s lost the mystique and aura that it once projected. It’s a good gimmick, but used sparingly and maybe only when special circumstances are called for rather than being part of an annual event where there are two Chamber matches taking place. Make it a happening and event instead of just another day at the office and it’s a good gimmick match. As it is now though, not quite so much.
Fact or Fiction – Quick Hits
– one sentence is all you need for this FoF lightning round!
1. Either the WWE or Universal Championship should always be defended on a PPV.
FACT: The titles or at least one of them should be defended on each and every pay-per-view. If the champs are worthy of the title, then they should be worthy of main events and title defenses as well.
2. Orange Cassidy will eventually become AEW Champion.
FICTION: I love the guy and his gimmick, but there’s a place for him in the company and it’s not as the top guy and champion. As Impact has shown with Tessa, anything can happen and it could happen in AEW, but I hope that no one gets that crazy to think it would work.
3. Kazuchika Okada was the best wrestler of the past decade.
FICTION: I can’t say yes or no because I’ve only seen maybe three matches if that on YouTube and am not as familiar with his work to make a call. He might be, but I’m pretty sure that there are many others that could also make that argument.
Statement #4: This is the correct list of the Top 7 Wrestlers with Numbers in Their Name.
6. Damian 666
5. One Man Gang
3. Scotty 2 Hotty
2. 2 Cold Scorpio
1. 123 Kid / Syxx
FACT: I don’t have time to argue and I can’t think of many others so why the hell not. Works for me and it’s good to see One Man Gang get some love.
Statement #5: WWE has abandoned the concept of storytelling.
FICTION: It’s still there and can be seen in the Brock vs Drew McIntyre rivalry, the Daniel Bryan vs Fiend stuff and even with the recent Erick Rowan “creature in a cage” gimmick. It’s not always good and sometimes is absolutely dumb (see Lana & Lashley), but it’s there.
