Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Wrestlemania 37
Thoughts & Predictions
April 9, 2021
It’s the biggest weekend of the year for fans of professional wrestling. Yes, it’s Wrestlemania weekend, and although the build and hype this year has been somewhat lame in comparison to years past, we still have two nights of great wrestling action and history waiting to be made. And of course, what is the biggest show of the year for WWE, even if it is on the Peacock, without a few predictions? This will be two parts, for Night 1 and Night 2. Let’s do the first night of the festivities, shall we? I have my Sister Cleo outfit on and my Gary Spivey wig standing by. Let’s do this.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (Smackdown Live)
Announced Participants: Akira Tozawa, Angel Garza, Cedric Alexander, Drew Gulak, Elias, Erik, Gran Metalik, Humberto Carrillo, Jaxson Ryker, Jey Uso, Kalisto, King Corbin, Lince Dorado, Mace, Murphy, Mustafa Ali, Ricochet, Shelton Benjamin, Shinsuke Nakamura, Slapjack, T-Bar, & Tucker
Before we get to the actual pay-per-view event, let’s talk about a match that normally would be a part of the big show, but for this year at least, has been moved to the live edition of WWE Smackdown on Fox and that is the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I love me some battle royals so I definitely have to get in a few words and pick a winner for this one. Look at those names. It’s Jobber Central as they clear out catering for a night and let the forgotten stars get some ring time. But where is Aleister Black? Where is Keith Lee? Where is Mojo Rawley? Where is Bo Dallas? Actually, I think I know where Bo might be, but we’ll talk about this later. But let’s get back to the Battle Royal. Of the names listed, I only see three that may have a possible chance of winning and that would be Jey Uso, Shinsuke Nakamura, and King Corbin. The rest? It’s thanks for showing up. We’ll see you in Saudi Arabia. I’d love to see Murphy or Mustafa get the win here, but that isn’t going to happen. It’s Corbin or Uso? Since Uso is part of the Roman Reigns story and it would make for some interesting tales if he was to win here and Roman maybe didn’t retain his title, I’ll go that route. Why the hell not.
Winner: Jey Uso
And now, let’s move on to the main events and the biggest show of the year.
Wrestlemania 37 – Night One
WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
Sasha Banks (c) versus Bianca Belair
From what Sasha keeps saying, this should be the main event of the night. While I think it should be a good match between two very talented women, do I think it should close the show? Not really. By the way, where is Bayley? She should be in this match or at least have a match as part of Mania, but I guess someone in management is mad. Bunch of damn pinhead ding-dongs. This will be a strong match and both women will no doubt go above and beyond to try and steal the show. The finish though is of little doubt. Bianca is currently WWE’s golden child and star to watch. She’s taking the win and the title here to give a “happy ending” for the show. I personally prefer Sasha, but WWE will do what’s best for business and that means Bianca wins.
Winner and NEW WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion: Bianca Belair
WWE Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) w/ MVP versus Drew McIntyre
This one, I’m not sure about. Will Drew get his moment in front of the fans as he well deserves or will Lashley, who has been doing an amazing job, retain his title and go on to other challenges down the road, maybe even a certain “Beast”? I think the smart money right now is to keep the belt where it is and so that’s the call I’m making. The Almighty Era continues.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Bobby Lashley w/ MVP
The Miz & John Morrison versus Bad Bunny & Damian Priest
This match will be fun to watch, but the outcome is in little doubt. Bad Bunny is the celebrity and Priest is the new face needing a big push. And if Miz or Morrison loses, who cares because it won’t hurt them a bit and with one promo, they’ll have their heat back. Look for the Bunny dude and Priest to take that trip to the pay window.
Winners: Bad Bunny & Damien Priest
WWE Raw Tag Team Championship Match
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) (c) versus AJ Styles & Omos
Kofi and Xavier have been tag team champions at least a hundred times already and guess what? Enough is enough and it’s time for a change. Win or lose, it won’t hurt them in any way, shape, or manner. AJ is one of the best performers in the world today and Omos is freakin’ huge. We’re looking at new champions.
Winners and NEW WWE Raw Tag Team Champions: AJ Styles & Omos
Shane McMahon versus Braun Strowman
Does anyone even care about this match? I sure as hell don’t. Braun should win or what’s the point? Hell, I don’t know what the point of this match is anyhow except to give Shane a match at Mania.
Winner: Braun Strowman
Seth Rollins versus Cesaro
From a wrestling standpoint, this will be the match of the night and steal the show, regardless of whatever Sasha and Bianca try and do. I think that Cesaro will have his moment and Seth will go swinging. That’s a must for this event. And I think that we may even finally see the long-awaited return of the Cesaro section as the fans will be back and Cesaro can get the big push he has long deserved. Of course, Seth will get the win in the end, but I have a feeling that both men will come out of this match with a brighter future ahead..
Winner: Seth Rollins
Tag Team Turmoil: Winners Challenge For Women’s Tag Team Championship on Night 2
Lana & Naomi versus Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose versus The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan) versus Natalya & Tamina
Even though it’s not official as of yet, I think we might be able to add the team of Carmella and Billy Kaye to the mix. It was leaked earlier in the week and while WWE quickly pulled it, I think it will become official tonight on Smackdown Live. And hell, why not add Bayley and Charlotte to the mix. They’re not doing anything else and deserve a spot on the show. Nah, I doubt that will happen. So let’s figure out this match and who will go on to face Nia and Shayna on Sunday. To be honest, none of these teams excite or interest me all that much. I think I’ll go with Tamina and Natalya, for no reason but just because I can.
Winners and New #1 Contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Championship: Natalya & Tamina
And there you go with my predictions for Night One of Wrestlemania 37. As you can obviously tell, my enthusiasm hasn’t quite gotten there yet for the big show, but I am trying. I’ll be back later on with my thoughts and predictions for Night 2. My thanks for reading. Have a great day and stay safe. I’ll see you at the matches.
