Good morning and welcome to a very special edition of “A Day Of Dougie!”. And what’s so special about it? Well, it’s 7:15 in the morning, a lovely Wednesday, and I’m actually wide awake. What more reason do I need to proclaim it a special day? I have to head to work in roughly an hour or so for what is my longest day of the week, but until then, why not rant about a few things. Nah, no ranting this morning. I’ll pull a few topics from the Magic Bag and do the usual commentary on those instead.
But before I do, Cam Newton was released by the New England Patriots yesterday. I don’t usually talk sports because I really don’t give a damn about them since they started getting all political and “woken”, but this is Cam Newton and he was the quarterback for our local team, the Carolina Panthers for a while. And back then, even though he started dressing like Grandma headed off to Sunday brunch far too often, the man was damn good at his job. And now, he can’t even beat a no-name rookie in a try-out? How the mighty have fallen. What the hell happened to this guy? I think success took it toll and he started to believe his own hype that he was the Black Superman. Well, he must have ingested some kryptonite somewhere along the way because what he is now and what he was then, it’s not even close. It’s a shame, but shit happens. Too bad!
And now, let’s get the Magic Bag out and do some topic-finding and see what we’re writing about today. We have hot dog chili, dust in the wind, and coupons. Yeah, this one might get a little weird. So are you ready? Let’s do this.
Hot Dog Chili…
A hot dog isn’t a real hot dog without some good chili slapped on top of it. So what’s the best chili to perfectly compliment that piece of meat slapped between the buns for your eating pleasure? There are some store-bought brands that are pretty decent. I like the Castleberry brand, the Bunker Hill chili, and the Food Lion home brand if I’m in a rush and have to use the canned stuff. But honestly, the best chili for a hot dog is homemade stuff. I’m talking hamburger, beans, onions, peppers, diced onions, diced tomatoes, and chili powder, all mixed together in a pot of steaming goodness. Take some of this, freeze it, and then when you’re ready to munch down a dog or two, use it and enjoy. More than likely, you’ll end with a big splotch falling down onto your shirt while trying to eat, but it’s a small price to pay. The perfect hot dog, to me anyhow, is ketchup, mustard, slaw, and chili. But if that chili isn’t right, the whole dog is less than perfect. It’s still filling and will satisfy a hungry belly, but the right chili, the homemade kind, will make it into a pleasurable eating experience. It’s true. It’s damn true. Let’s move on.
Coupons…
Who doesn’t like to save money? I do, especially when I’m eating out at a fast-food joint or restaurant. Have you seen the prices lately? That shit costs way too much. But give me a coupon to make it more reasonable and it’s on like the Wonder Bra and Jane Russell. Obscure ’70s reference. Look it up. I won’t go to a place unless I have some good coupons or the food is really just that damn good. I admit it, I’m cheap. And some places, like Wendy’s, I won’t go to anyhow because of a bad experience many years ago and they suck. But give me some coupons to get a deal on my food and we’re talking. Coupons are good and they are our friends. Believe that!
Dust In The Wind…
Bill and Ted said it best when talking to Socrates. All we are is dust in the wind… dude! And who can argue with that?
And with that, I’m out of here for today. I’ll catch you on the flip side. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions about anything are welcome and appreciated. Be safe and I’ll see you later.
