NWA 74 (Night Two)
Thoughts & Predictions
August 25, 2022
DougMaynard.com
This weekend, the National Wrestling Alliance is back on PPV, live from St. Louis, MO with NWA 74. Two nights of great wrestling action, sanctioned by the NWA. And an event this big means it’s time to break out the Magic 8-Ball. It’s time to make a few predictions. Night 2 of 2. Let’s do this.
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship
Trevor Murdoch (c) vs. Tyrus
The main event for the legendary ten pounds of gold as two-time Champion Trevor Murdoch takes on long-time NWA World Television Champion, Tyrus. I can see an argument to be made for both men to get the win here. For Murdoch, he’s the established champion, a tried and true old-school style wrestler, and really represents what the initials NWA should be about. And Tyrus? He’s on TV in front of two million people every day on Fox News and the publicity and attention having him as champion would get for the NWA would be amazing. Plus, he’s a legit tough guy and a damn good wrestler in his own right. So what is going to happen? I’m going with a title switch here. Murdoch can get the belt back at the rematch or maybe Nick Aldis will step up and challenge for the title next, but the P.R. seeing Tyrus with that NWA Championship on his shoulder is just too good to resist.
Winner and NEW NWA World Champion: Tyrus
NWA Women’s World Championship
Kamille (c) vs. Burke Invitational winner
I picked Samantha Starr to win the Burke Invitational and challenge for the title here. I also picked Taya Valkyrie to beat Kamille for the belt on Night 1 so the match here should be Taya Valkyrie versus Samantha Starr. And the winner? I want to see Starr do well and have a big, groundbreaking moment for her future and career, but she’s not winning the title yet. Look for Taya Valkyrie to win and retain the gold.
Winner and STILL NWA Women’s Champion: Taya Valkyrie
NWA United States Tag Team Championships 10-Team Battle Royale
Gold Rushhh (Jordan Clearwater and Marshe’ Rockett) vs. Miserably Faithful (Sal The Pal and Gaagz The Gymp) vs. The Now (Hale Collins and Vik Dalishus) vs. The Ill Begotten (Alex Taylor & Rush Freeman) vs. The Fixers (Wrecking Ball Legursky and Jay Bradley) vs. The Country Gentlemen (AJ Cazana and Anthony Andrews) vs. Hawx Aerie (Luke Hawx & PJ Hawx) vs. Team Ambition (Mike Outlaw & Camaro Jackson) vs. The Spectaculars (Rush Freeman and Brady Pierce)
It’s a Battle Royal and it’s going to be crazy. I think it’s time for the Hawx Aerie to have some redemption here. They’re winning and will be the new NWA United States Tag Team Champs.
Winners and NEW NWA United States Tag Team Champions: Hawx Aerie (Luke Hawx & PJ Hawx)
NWA Women’s Tag Team Championships – Street Fight
Pretty Empowered (Ella Envy & Kenzie Paige) (c) vs. The Hex (Allysin Kay & Marti Belle)
A street fight by the women? That’s something that you don’t see every day and with these four ladies going at it, it should be one fun and exciting battle. I can hear Joey Styles in my head screaming, “Catfight!”. This could really go either way, but my gut is saying The Hex, and the gut is rarely wrong.
Winners and NEW NWA Women’s Tag Team Champions: The Hex (Allysin Kay & Marti Belle).
MLW National Openweight Championshp
Davey Richards (c) vs. Thrillbilly Silas
I cannot take a guy called “Thrillbilly” seriously. Look for Richards to capture the victory and retain his title here.
Winner and STILL MLW Openweight Champion: Davey Richards
Nick Aldis vs. Flip Gordon
Nick Aldis, former NWA World Champion, is a man with something to prove. All of this back and forth with NWA Owner Billy Corgan, is it a work, a shoot, or a little of both? I guess we’ll find out eventually. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Aldis get involved in the Murdoch/Tyrus match at some point, but that is a discussion for another time. For this match, Aldis wins and wins big.
Winner: Nick Aldis
Mercurio vs. Magic Jake Dumas
I must admit that these two men are gentlemen that I’m not very familiar with. I’ve heard of Dumas, but I don’t know much about him and Mercurio, even less. I’ll just flip a coin. Tails so give the win to Dumas.
Winner: Magic Jake Dumas
Thom Latimer vs. Judais
Judais is a big guy and had had some impressive moments, but Thom Latimer is damn good, a top guy who belongs in AEW or the WWE. Nothing against Judais, but there is no way that Latimer should lose here.
Winner: Thom Latimer
Colby Corino vs. Caprice Coleman
I just saw Caprice wrestle a couple of weeks ago against Omega Original Cham Pain in what was a very good match. Caprice hasn’t lost a step and can go with anyone. Corino is excellent in that ring as well and I definitely expect him to be on either AEW or the WWE’s radar at some point. He doesn’t have much in terms of size, but he can work a match and has the skills to go against anyone. A tough call here to be sure. A win by Colby makes more sense in the big picture of things so let’s go with that.
Winner: Colby Corino
And there you go, my predictions for Night Two of the NWA 74 pay-per-view event. So what do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong? Do I need to cut back on the day drinking? Let me know with your comments, thoughts, and any questions. It’s a big weekend for the NWA and should be damn good. Until the next time, take care and be good. I’ll catch you on the flip side and see you at the matches. Take care.
