Welcome to the show. It’s the only pro wrestling Q&A that matters. You have questions, and I have answers. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I’m Doug, your party host and Guiding Light. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
TNA has created several memorable match types. Ultimate X is its most iconic. How long before we see Ultimate X at a WWE event?
I don’t think we’ll ever see that happen as long as TNA is a separate promotion from WWE. If we have a joint TNA/NXT event that’s branded as such, an Ultimate X match is a possibility, but for a solo WWE event, like WrestleMania, or SummerSlam, it’s not going to happen.
I know you’re a fan of the TV show Shameless. Recast the Gallaghers using wrestlers in each role.
It’s a big cast so I’ll only recast The Gallaghers, Kev, and Vee with wrestlers. The other characters, we’ll leave them alone. For Frank, who is utterly disgusting, but still likable? I’m not sure how someone Straight-Edge would handle the role, but I’d cast CM Punk. Fiona? That would be Bayley. For the roles of Lip, Debbie, and Liam, I’d go with Chad Gable, Steph DeLander, and Brodie Lee Jr., aka Negative One. For Ian & Mickey, I’d cast Angel Garza & Ludwig Kaiser. And finally, for the roles of Kevin & Vee, Kevin Owens & Bianca Belair.
Whatever happened to Curtis Axel?
After his last active run with the WWE, Joe Hennig worked as an agent for a few months on RAW. Since 2023, Axel has been off the radar in terms of pro wrestling. I can’t find any mentions of wrestling or appearances anywhere for the past couple of years. If anyone knows where Hennig currently is or what he’s doing, let me know. Thanks.
Who is the greatest babyface in WWE history?
The first name that came to mind was Bruno Sammartino. And in terms of his entire wrestling career, I can’t find any mention of his ever-turning heel. So, let’s go with that. Bruno Sammartino.
You have a DeLorean to go back in time and be in attendance for one PPV, which one would you choose and why?
Starcade 1983 – A Flare for the Gold. It was the true granddaddy of them all in wrestling PPVs, even before WrestleMania. I grew up here in NC and was here for all the hype, but didn’t get to go to the show, as I was only 16 years old and it was three hours away. But, I would have loved to have been there and seen it in person. It would have been an incredible experience.
With Mercedes Monet’s winning streak still in place, does either Hayter or Storm beat her? Or is she adding another belt to the collection? And if she does, do they unite the AEW belts?
I don’t see Monet losing her belt anytime soon until she’s ready and wants to lose it. I don’t see AEW unifying the titles either. That would make too much sense. If we get a title versus title match for the AEW Women’s Championship belts, we’ll have a Dusty finish and both champions will keep their belt.
Am I wrong in thinking there needs to be one more AEW-sized company? Both AEW and WWE have so many great wrestlers that they can’t properly showcase the majority of them. Another company would allow for spreading the wealth, creating a balance, and making a better product for all.
There is another company. It’s called TNA. There are also GCW, MLW, AAA, CMLL, and New Japan, just to name a few. We don’t need another company.
Who are the best true mid-carders? Wrestlers you love to watch but could never realistically hold the top title.
Sami Zayn immediately comes to mind. Grayson Waller, Austin Theory, R-Truth, Dominik Mysterio, and Carlito also all would fall into that category.
If you had a Time Machine and could bring back past wrestlers to wrestle (from their prime) in 2025, who would they be?
Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane, the Midnight Express. Along with Jim Cornette, of course. I’d love to see Bobby & Stan against teams like The Usos, The Street Profits, DIY, The Motor City Machine Guns, Fraxiom, etc. The matches would be awesome.
What are your thoughts about Kyle Fletcher? Specifically, is he the most charismatic wrestler in the current AEW landscape?
Fletcher is the most charismatic? I had forgotten that he’s even a part of the AEW roster. My bad! He’s a good wrestler and solid in the ring. He’s too flippy-floppy for my taste, but he’s got the potential to be a major name one day.
