Okay, I am royally pissed off and a certain officer of the Laurinburg Police Department is responsible. I went to Wal-Mart with a friend of mine earlier tonight for the Black Friday craziness… the 6:00 event. What we were looking for sold out quickly so we walked around a while, working our way through the chaos and then left. A little later, we decided to come back for the 8:00 unveiling of items to try again. And we weren’t able to get what we wanted so we left again and went to my friends house. How all of this is relevant will make itself clear later.
At my friend’s house, we hung out a while (watching Family Guy – love that show) and a friend of his came over. And it was pretty boring sitting there watching TV so we decided to go ride with the friend of my friend to get gas in McColl and then we decided to (surprise) go to Wal-Mart and “look at women”. Well, they wanted to look at women and walk around and I was just tagging along for the ride. (Actually, we were just getting bored and restless – “looking at women” was the excuse our driver gave the officer when he asked why we had been at Wal-Mart that last time… lol). We go in to Wal-Mart and walk around and circle the store one more time. I spoke to the police officers on the way in that were standing by the door and also spoke / nodded to several employees that I know as we walked around. And now, here’s where it gets stupid.
We left Wal-Mart and started the ride back to my friends house. And here’s where the fun starts. We turned on to 401-S and suddenly, there were blue lights in the rear-view mirror. We pull over and Cpl. Wilkerson, of the Laurinburg Police Department comes strolling up to the car. He asked for the driver’s license and started shining his flashlight all into the car. The driver of the car then said, “Can I ask you what you’re pulling me for?”. Wilkerson said “yes” and then didn’t answer, once more shining the flashlight into the back seat where I was sitting. He shined his light on me and said, “Doug”.
I said “What up?” and Wilkerson focused his attention on me. He said something about me “coming out of Wal-Mart twice” and I replied that I’ve been in and out of Wal-Mart several times today. So what? Our driver mentioned that we were there to “look at women”. Wilkerson acted stunned at the response and then directed his attention towards me once more. He said that he had been told that I “had been caught stealing two times” from Wal-Mart and implied that I was supposed banned from Wal-Mart or something. My response: “Well, somebody damn lied!”. He backed off pretty quickly and told the driver to do something about the tint on his windows and left, going back to his car.
What I want to know is why this officer gives a damn about how many times I go in or out of Wal-Mart. I’m a shopper and regularly go to Wal-Mart to buy the stuff I need. I also bank there, but this officer is pulling us over for no reason, essentially calling me a thief and this pisses me off big time. I don’t know if Cpl. Wilkerson performed his accusation of his own accord or if someone from Wal-Mart lied and gave him this false information, but I want to know and I want to know soon. By the way, just for the sake of full disclosure, Cpl. Wilkerson is the officer who hit my sister with his police car a couple of years ago on Atkinson St. by the Kangaroo. Did I mention that she was walking with a walker at the time and was wearing a reflective safety vest. He was never charged, no lawyers would take the case and the episode was swept under the rug. So there is a history here between Wilkerson and myself, but more indirectly than anything else.
But anyhow, if Wilkerson truly thinks that I am “banned from Wal-Mart”, then why would I acknowledge and talk to the officers that I knew each time I entered the store and also to the employees as I did as so many others do regularly, walk around and look at stuff. And if it’s the fault of someone from Wal-Mart, I want to know who and why and I want Wal-Mart to realize why I WILL NOT be shopping there again. Hell, I may start going in there 4 or 5 times a day and just walk around and dare someone to say something, but until this is straightened out and I get an apology from someone for all of this, they won’t see a penny of my money. When I was running the Sweepstakes place, we were spending easily a hundred bucks a week on drinks, chips and other assorted items and I was in there at least 8 or 10 times a week easily. And now this?
I’m not sure why Wilkerson decided to pull us and throw this idiotic charge at me. If it was a Sheriff’s Deputy, I’d at least understand this harassment, but Wilkerson is part of the City Police and so far as I know, I’ve never had any kind of problems with any of them. I don’t know why, but I will find out. Be rest assured on that!
