Thirty Days Of Dougie! (Day 13): Toy Soldiers, 50’s Music and BLM…

Who the hell left the A/C running all night? After a week of tempatures in the 70’s and even the 80’s, I woke up this morning and it is freakin’ cold out there. The thingee on the carport says 30 degrees and I believe it. And it’s not expected to be much warmer today or even get out of the 30’s from what I understand. *sighs* Welcome to North Carolina, where a person can experience all four seasons, sometimes in the same day. I guess I’d better break out the long johns.

And you know what the worst part is? As recently as five years ago, I wouldn’t have even noticed the cold. I was wearing shorts and t-shirts, twenty four / seven and fifty-two weeks a year. And it was all good. Then about three years ago, I started getting cold sometimes. My body started to take notice of the weather. My bones started to ache and creak and do the breakfast cereal impressions of snap, crackle and pop… and that was just getting out of bed in the morning. And now, I’m about to damn freeze. Getting old sucks!

So here we are and this is Day 13 of the “Thirty Days of Dougie!” series. What are we going to talk about? I guess I should reach into the Magic Box and find out. But before I do, I have two things to note.

Thank you to all of the folks that responded and gave me an identity for the picture I posted on Facebook yesterday. I posted a picture of a guy and just wanted a name. We got a name. And now, that stupid idiot is going to be doing two things. First off, he’s going on “the List!”. And secondly, he’s going down! And we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help. Thanks again.

And secondly, Happy Birthday to my sister, Terri, who turns 56 today. I love ya gal and you’ll always be my “little sister”, even if you are way older than me. Happy Birthday!

And now. let’s reach into the Magic Box. The topics are Toy Soldiers, 50’s music and BLM. Oh vey, this might get interesting. Let’s do this…

Thirty Days of Dougie! (Day 13): Toy Soldiers, 50’s Music and BLM…
March 4, 2017

The first topic is “Toy Soldiers”. I was going to talk about the small plastic army men that I used to play with as a child. Do you remember those? Those staged battles with the little plastic men in fixed positions. Hours upon hours of fun, using the imagination and having battle after battle. Of course, kids today don’t know about all of that because the little men have guns and promote violence and are not politically correct and the kids today would rather be playing on the X-Box instead of actually using their imagination and being creative. I hate today’s wimpy ass society and world of political correctness where everyone is afraid of offending anyone else. And if I actually do write about all of the battles I used to create, the use of firecrackers and homemade bombs to create more realistic scenarios, I’ll probably just piss someone off. *sighs*. I’ll just post the lyrics to the song, “Toy Soldiers”, by Martika instead.

It wasn’t my intention to mislead you
It never should have been this way,
What can I say?
It’s true I did extend the invitation,
I never knew how long you’d stay,
When you hear temptation call
It’s your heart that takes,
Takes the fall
Won’t you come out and play with me?

Step by step,
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit torn apart,
We never win,
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers

It’s getting hard to wake up in the morning,
My head is spinning constantly,
How can it be?
How could I be so blind to this addiction?
If I don’t stop
The next one’s gonna be me
Only emptiness remains,
It replaces all the pain.
Won’t you come out and play with me?

Step by step,
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy…

You’re welcome…

Next up is “50’s music”. And what can be said about that era. The music was fresh and bee-boppy and pretty damn awesome most of the time. But it was a simplier time to be sure. Artists like Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, Sinatra, Pat Boone, etc, dominated the music charts. And it still sounds better than 95% of the crap that passes as music today. ‘Nuff said!

And finally, BLM , which stands for “Black Lives Matter!”. Three words for this blatantly racist group. ALL LIVES MATTER! And that’s all I have to say on that!

Wow, that was easy. And with that, I’m through for the day. I have to go get ready for work anyhow. Thank you for reading and I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 14. Take care!
