Thirty Days Of Dougie! (Day 18): Algebra, Giving Up and Nip It In The Bud…

What is this about waiting until the last minute to do these bloggy things? I’ve been goofing off and sleeping all day and still, no Day 18 of “Thirty Days of Dougie!”. Now it’s 10:25pm and the day is nearly over and if I want to get Day 18 done today, as opposed to being all sneaky and posting Day 18 on what would actually be Day 19, I’d better get to work. Of course, who would know, right? Hmmmm…

No, I want to do this fair and square, just like the Hillary team in the last elections. They ALWAYS played straight up in everything, right Bernie? I’m sorry about that. I’ve tried to keep politics out of this forum and for the most part, I’ve managed do do so, but every so often, I can’t resist. My apologies to the leftie wingnuts out there who supported Hillary. By the way, she lost. Is that crying I hear? Screaming? Heads banging against the wall? Oops! My bad!

I watched the movie, “Blazing Saddles” last night. Loved it, as always. I think every single person should be required to watch this movie at least once. The words “nigger” and “faggots” are tossed around with great regularity and yet, I don’t know anyone who is offended or takes it wrong. It’s satire at it’s best, something Mel Brooks was (and is) a master of, and had everyone laughing, as it should be. If they tried to make that movie in today’s times, there would be protests by almost every group in existence, including BLM, the ACLU, the gay rights groups, the women’s rights groups and probably the SPCA for the scene where Mongo knocks out the horse. It couldn’t be made today. That’s why our world today, while so much better in so many ways, sucks! Political correctness would kill it all. Richard Pryor couldn’t perform today with his “Run Nigger Run” material. Don Rickles offended everyone with his humor and that’s one of the reasons he was so funny. He couldn’t perform in today’s world. The seventies were great because people had a sense of humor and could laugh at themselves and each other. And now, break out the protests and lawsuits. It’s a sad, sad world. At least I can still go to Netflix and watch some of the classic older stuff. YouTube is great too. And Blazing Saddles, that’ll always be good. ‘Nuff said!

Let’s go to the Magic Box and pull out the topics for today, Day 18 of the “Thirty Days of Dougie!” series. And the topics are: Algebra, Nip It In The Bud and Giving Up. Well, I’m not giving up. I’ve got an hour and twenty minutes to go before midnight and I’m going to get this finished and posted TODAY! Let’s do it…

Thirty Days Of Dougie! (Day 18) – Algebra, Giving Up & Nip It In The Bud…
March 9, 2017

Algebra. I remember taking this class in school and wondering “Why?”. I did well with this class, but to be honest, I never really quite knew what I was doing or why I was doing it. Just give me a process and formula to solve the problems and I’d do it and I kept an A average in this class. But why? We always had it drilled into our heads how important that knowing algebra would be and I guess if you’re a scientist or geologist or something of that nature, it would be. But I’m a clerk. A cashier. I deal with money and common adding, subtracting, multiplication and division. It’s what I do and have done for almost forty years. And algebra. Still waiting to use it, but still haven’t had a reason. I think the teachers were mistaken. Oh well…

Giving Up? Don’t do it unless there’s no other option or it’s a lost cause. There is no shame in cutting your losses when there’s no win in sight or no way to complete whatever it is you’re doing. But if you’re right or following a dream or doing what it is you do, just keep on keeping on and never give up. Never!

And finally, “Nip It In The Bud!”. That’s what Don Knotts, in his role of Deputy Barney Fife, used to say. Don’t let a problem or situation get out of hand. Just nip it in the bud! Barney was a man of courage and wisdom. And with these words coming from his mouth, he was also very, very right. If you see a problem rising, just nip it in the bud. And there you go.

And that’s it. Day 18 is out of the way. Yes, this was extremely short, but then again, so was Danny and he was still one of the best lovers I’ve ever had! One of the worst people, but damn, that boy had some skills. Oops! I didn’t mean to say that. Forget I said anything. I miss that guy. Ooops! I didn’t say that either. Let’s me close this up before I pick up this cell phone and call that number and make one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Have a great one, my Peeps and I’ll see you tomorrow with Day 19. Love ya – mean it!
