Music Fact or Fiction

Every week, I like to take a break from the wrestling, the politics, the drama of Facebook, etc, and take a look instead at the comings and goings and what-not’s of the world of entertainment, aka “the music scene”. It’s called “Music Fact or Fiction” and it’s exactly what you think it is. I read stuff and then I agree or not and explain why. The statements come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And the rest, it’s all me. Let’s do this…

Drake’s popularity is waning .

FICTION: While I can’t really say that I’m a big fan of Drake myself, he’s as popular as ever. The music is still good and the songs are still selling and he’s making lots of money with millions of fans worldwide. Popularity is like a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs in the entertainment world. He’s up and then he’s down and then he’s up again. He’s not going anywhere though and his fan support isn’t either.

Pink is a good choice to get MTV’s Video Vanguard award.

FACT: Does MTV even still play videos anymore? Pink is a good choice. She’s been around for a while now, made some great videos and will put butts in the seats with her name on the Marquee’. A fine selection. Good for her and MTV.

The Bruce Springsteen residency on Broadway sounds like a great show.

FACT: Again, I’m not a big fan of Bruce, especially since he started getting all political with his views. Singers should sing. Actors should act. Keep the political views quiet because that’s not what we’re coming to see you for. But back to the question. Bruce on Broadway should be a helluva show. Springsteen has always been one of the best performers in music and has a great history and library of songs. I’m sure the show will be great and entertaining and I hope it all works well for the “Boss”.

You enjoyed the video for Green Day’s “Troubled Times.”

FICTION: What did I just say about singers should sing and leave the politics to politicians, talking heads and bloggers instead? The song is okay, but too much political symbolism of the wrong kind for my tastes.

Bruno Mars’ “Versace on the Floor” doesn’t hold up compared to his other hits.

FICTION: I listened and I liked it. I’m not a huge Bruno Mars fan. He’s hit or miss with me, running about 50/50 with most of his singles. But the song is good and the quality is strong and I think we’re looking at another Bruno Mars track for that upcoming “Greatest Hits” CD in a couple of years. It’s a good song.

It’s not surprising that Taylor Swift won the groping lawsuit.

FICTION: I’m not really surprised because it’s Taylor Swift and that little minx won’t back down in a fight and wouldn’t have filed a complaint if it hadn’t happened. She was in the right and pushed the issue and came out on top. It was a tough fight, I’m sure, because it was essentially a he said – she said argument, but she did what she felt she had to do and got a little anti-groping justice. Not bad at all.

And that’s it for the “Fact or Fiction” for today. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. And now, I’m down and gone. Until the next time, have a great one.
